Installing Touch Screens (UNIX)

Installation of a touchsreen for MICROS Retail OSCAR POS under operating system UNIX is done in 2 steps:

  1. Installation of the driver and configuration of the system and processing units.
  2. Configuration of the touchscreen layout.

Installation of driver and configuration of system and processing units

A touch screen can only be installed if the appropriate driver diskette (MICROS Retail OSCAR POS- application DRIVER-DISK) is completely installed together with the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS program.

Note:
Before the driver diskette is to be installed, check if this has been previously installed in the system. Use the Unix command swconfig or the custom program to check if the entry oscardr already exists.

The installation of a Touch screen should be performed in the following sequence:

  1. Select the System Unit, to which the touchscreen is to be connected.
  2. Make sure that automatic start of the X-Server is not configured on this system unit. This option can be permanently switched off by the system administrator (root) using the UNIX command disable scologin.
  3. Implement a Process unit of the type Client. Activate the options Graphic and X server for this client.
  4. Implement a device of the type Touchscreen for this processing unit and define the Device Interface to be 99 (Device = nil).
  5. Make sure that the current MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application is ended by entering the command oscar stop.
  6. Sign on as MICROS Retail OSCAR POS- application USER and enter the command oscar touch_enable.
  7. Sign on as Superuser and enter the command mkdev bitpad. Define the interface (COM1 or COM2), to which the touchscreen is to be connected.
  8. Sign on as MICROS Retail OSCAR POS- application USER and enter the command oscar touch_calibrate to calibrate the touchscreen. The defined screen coordinates will then be stored in the file /work/touch.dat.
  9. Stop and start the current MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application on this system unit.
