Adding, replacing, and removing datasets from a dashboard

Once you have created a dashboard, you can add, edit, replace, or remove datasets from the dashboard. For steps, see the appropriate link below:

To remove a dataset from a dashboard

When you replace a dataset with another dataset, you can define the objects to use to replace the dataset objects from the dataset that is being replaced, determine how to handle derived metrics that are calculated based on dataset objects that are being replaced, and so on.

If you remove a dataset from a dashboard, some controls on the dashboard may contain references to data that is no longer available. These controls will be automatically updated to remove references from the removed dataset. For example, if a visualization contains attributes and metrics from a single report, and the report is removed from the dashboard, the visualization is cleared and no longer contains any data.

If you have added dataset objects from the All Objects panel to the dashboard, you can remove the dataset that contains the objects from the dashboard, as with any other dataset. However, if you add additional objects to the dashboard from the All Objects panel after deleting this dataset, the application automatically adds a new dataset to the dashboard to contain the dataset objects.

Prerequisites

To add a dataset to a dashboard:

  1. Click the name of the dashboard to run it.

  2. Hover the cursor over the name of the Datasets panel, then click the arrow icon.

If the Datasets panel is not displayed, from the View menu, select Datasets Panel.

  1. Select the type of dataset to add by doing one of the following:

The dataset is added to the dashboard and the attributes, metrics, and other dataset objects in the dataset are displayed in the Datasets panel.

To edit a dataset in a dashboard:

  1. Click the name of the dashboard to run it.

  2. In the Datasets panel, hover the cursor over the name of the dataset that you want to edit, then click the arrow icon.

If the Datasets panel is not displayed, from the View menu, select Datasets Panel.

  1. From the menu, select Edit Dataset, then do one of the following:

To remove a dataset from a dashboard:

  1. Click the name of the dashboard to run it.

  2. In the Datasets panel, right-click the name of the dataset to remove, then select Delete. The dataset is removed from the dashboard.

If the Datasets panel is not displayed, from the View menu, select Datasets Panel.
