Once you have created a dashboard, you can add, edit, replace, or remove datasets from the dashboard. For steps, see the appropriate link below:
To add a dataset to a dashboard
To edit a dataset in a dashboard
To replace a dataset in a dashboard
To replace all datasets in a dashboard with a single dataset
To remove a dataset from a dashboard
When you replace a dataset with another dataset, you can define the objects to use to replace the dataset objects from the dataset that is being replaced, determine how to handle derived metrics that are calculated based on dataset objects that are being replaced, and so on.
If you remove a dataset from a dashboard, some controls on the dashboard may contain references to data that is no longer available. These controls will be automatically updated to remove references from the removed dataset. For example, if a visualization contains attributes and metrics from a single report, and the report is removed from the dashboard, the visualization is cleared and no longer contains any data.
If you have added dataset objects from the All Objects panel to the dashboard, you can remove the dataset that contains the objects from the dashboard, as with any other dataset. However, if you add additional objects to the dashboard from the All Objects panel after deleting this dataset, the application automatically adds a new dataset to the dashboard to contain the dataset objects.
You have created the dashboard that you want to modify.
You must have the Edit Dashboard and Run Dashboard privileges.
If you are importing data, be sure to review the prerequisites for the data source type that you are importing data from (such as a file or database), as described in About importing data.
To add a dataset to a dashboard:
Click the name of the dashboard to run it.
Hover the cursor over the name of the Datasets panel, then click the arrow icon.
If the Datasets panel is not displayed, from the View menu, select Datasets Panel.
Select the type of dataset to add by doing one of the following:
To import data into the dashboard to use as a dataset, point to Add Data, then select Import Data. Select the appropriate options to import your data. For steps, see About importing data.
To add an existing dataset to the dashboard, point to Add Data, then choose Select Existing Dataset. The Select Dataset dialog box opens. Navigate to and select the dataset to add. You can make multiple selections at once by pressing CTRL as you select each item. Click OK to apply your changes.
To create a new dataset within the dashboard, point to Add Data, then select Create New Report. The Report Editor opens. Select the appropriate options to define your new dataset.
To add data directly to the dashboard from the project that you are currently logged into, click and drag dataset objects from the All Objects panel onto the dashboard. the application automatically creates a dataset to contain these objects and displays this dataset in the Datasets panel. The dataset is given the same name as the project.
If the All Objects panel is not displayed, from the View menu, select Datasets Panel. At the bottom of the Datasets panel, click the arrow icon next to All Objects.
The dataset is added to the dashboard and the attributes, metrics, and other dataset objects in the dataset are displayed in the Datasets panel.
To edit a dataset in a dashboard:
Click the name of the dashboard to run it.
In the Datasets panel, hover the cursor over the name of the dataset that you want to edit, then click the arrow icon.
If the Datasets panel is not displayed, from the View menu, select Datasets Panel.
From the menu, select Edit Dataset, then do one of the following:
To edit a report, select the appropriate options to edit the report.
To edit a dataset created from imported data, select the appropriate options to edit the dataset.
To replace a dataset in a dashboard:
Click the name of the dashboard to run it.
In the Datasets panel, hover the cursor over the name of the dataset that you want to replace, then click the arrow icon.
If the Datasets panel is not displayed, from the View menu, select Datasets Panel.
Point to Replace Dataset With, then select one of the following:
To replace the dataset by importing new data into the application from a data source such as an Excel file or database, select Import Data, then select the appropriate options to import your data. For steps, see About importing data.
To replace the dataset with a new dataset, select Create New Report, then select the appropriate options to define your new dataset.
To replace the dataset with an existing dataset, click Select Existing Dataset. Navigate to and select the new dataset, then click Select.
The Replace Objects dialog box opens. Select the appropriate options to define how to replace each dataset object in the dataset being replaced.
Click OK to apply your changes. The dataset is replaced and the dashboard is updated to reflect the new dataset.
To replace all datasets in a dashboard with a single dataset:
Click the name of the dashboard to run it.
Hover the cursor over the name of the Datasets panel, then click the arrow icon.
If the Datasets panel is not displayed, from the View menu, select Datasets Panel.
Point to Replace All Datasets, then select one of the following:
To replace the datasets by importing new data into the application from a data source such as an Excel file or database, select Import Data, then select the appropriate options to import your data. For steps, see About importing data.
To replace the dataset with a new dataset, select Create New Report, then select the appropriate options to define your new dataset.
o replace the datasets with an existing dataset, click Select Existing Dataset. Navigate to and select the new dataset, then click Select.
The Replace Objects dialog box opens. Select the appropriate options to define how to replace each dataset object in the datasets being replaced.
Click OK to apply your changes. The datasets are replaced and the dashboard is updated to reflect the new dataset.
To remove a dataset from a dashboard:
Click the name of the dashboard to run it.
In the Datasets panel, right-click the name of the dataset to remove, then select Delete. The dataset is removed from the dashboard.
If the Datasets panel is not displayed, from the View menu, select Datasets Panel.
