Green OK/Activity LED Not Illuminated on New NVMe Storage Drives

Bug ID: 30484796

Issue: Some new Oracle 6.4 TB NVMe SSD v2 storage drives have incorrect LED settings. When this issue occurs, drives at idle do not cause the Green OK/Activity LED to illuminate Steady On and the blink rate during activity is incorrect. Green OK/Activity LEDs on some Oracle 6.4 TB NVMe SSD v2 storage drives may not light in the same way as Oracle 6.4 TB NVMe SSD storage drive LEDs already installed in systems.

The incorrect drive green OK/Activity LED behavior is:

  • OFF – AC power is not present or Oracle ILOM boot is not complete.

OFF – The storage drive is functioning normally.

  • BLINK – Blinks to show storage drive activity. Storage drive indicator blink rates vary by activity.

Blink rate during activity is incorrect.

Affected Hardware and Software: Oracle 6.4 TB NVMe SSD v2 storage drives on all supported servers and operating systems. See Supported Servers and Operating Systems.

Workaround: To restore the expected green OK/Activity LED behavior of the storage drive's availability for use and operational state, update firmware 8DV1RL02 Patch: 30507388 FW RL02 NVME PCIE SSD. See Accessing Software Updates and Firmware Downloads.

Reload firmware 8DV1RL02 on Oracle 6.4 TB NVMe SSD v2s using Patch: 30507388 FW RL02 NVME PCIE SSD even if the drive is already on firmware 8DV1RL02. See Download the Device Software Package.

Current metadata in scripts/tools with automated firmware updates may not actually process a fwupdate command to the drive if the firmware release is seen to be "at current" level. Both FUI and STORAGE_DEVICE currently do not send fwupdate commands if the drive is at current firmware release. See Update the NVMe Storage Drive Firmware.

Verify that the drive Fault-Service Required status indicator is not lit and that the green OK/Activity LED status indicator is lit on the 6.4 TB NVMe SSD drives that you updated. Drive LED status indicators are: Green (operational), Amber (faulty disk ), Blue (SSD has been prepared for removal). See Verify Oracle 6.4 TB NVMe SSD v2 Operation.

After the 8DV1RL02 firmware update patch is updated, the drive Green OK/Activity LED behavior should be:

  • OFF – AC power is not present or Oracle ILOM boot is not complete.

  • BLINK – Blinks to show storage drive activity. Storage drive indicator blink rates vary by activity.

  • STEADY ON – The storage drive is functioning normally.

Refer to Status Indicators in Oracle 6.4 TB NVMe SSD v2 User Guide.
