Understanding the PeopleSoft Data Migration Workbench

The PeopleSoft Data Migration Workbench facilitates the process to migrate application configuration data. Using Application Data Sets (ADS) as its underlying transport technology, the Data Migration Workbench enables you to compare, validate, and copy the content data from one database to another.

The Data Migration Workbench is an effective alternative to Data Mover scripts, providing greater visibility and control of managed changes in your environments. Authorized developers or administrators can define application data sets, and compare and copy the data in much the same way as the copy and compare process of managed objects.

Note: You can still use Data Mover scripts to load application data; however, Data Mover does not provide a way to compare and validate the data that is copied.

For more information regarding application data sets and the Data Migration Workbench, see the product documentation for PeopleTools: Lifecycle Management Guide.

Currently, PeopleSoft delivers the following Application Data Set (ADS) definitions as sample data:

Supported Functionality

Application Data Set Usage

Delivered Application Data Set Names

Accounts Receivable - Condition Monitor

See Using Application Data Sets for Condition Monitor.

The Condition Monitor process checks for customer's accounts or items that meet a condition—such as a change of status for a customer’s account—and creates an action based on templates and rules that you define.

You can use the ADS definitions to migrate Action Codes, Action Templates, Collection Rules, Assessment Rules, and Condition Definition Users between databases—and ultimately to your production environments.

There are many ADS names delivered.

Accounts Receivable - Aging

See Using Application Data Sets for Aging.

Aging reports categorize invoices in PeopleSoft Receivables according to the length of time an invoice has been outstanding.

You can create and test Aging tables with specified aging rules in a test database, and use ADS definitions to move them to other databases or to the production database when finalized.

COMP_AGING_TBL_GBL

Accounts Receivable - Payment Predictor

See Using Application Data Sets for Payment Predictor.

The Payment Predictor Application Engine process is the automatic cash application process in PeopleSoft Receivables. Items that have a payment method of cash, check, credit card, electronic file transfer, or giro - EFT qualify for Payment Predictor processing.

You can create and test tables with specified Payment Predictor methods in a test database, and use ADS definitions to move them to other databases or to the production database when finalized.

PP-METHOD

Accounts Receivable - Run Control Date Update

Run Control Update Registry is used to register and query run control data available for update.

You can register and test new run controls in a test database, and use ADS definition to move the registry data to other databases or to the production database.

EORC_REGISTRY_DATASET

Accounts Payable - Accounting Entry

See the section Understanding the Data Migration Workbench for the Accounting Entry Template, under Accounting Entry Template Page

Accounting Entry Templates are used to generate Payables and Payment Processing accounting entries.

You can create and test Accounting Entry Templates in a test database, and use ADS definitions to move them to other databases or to the production database when finalized.

ACCOUNTINGENTRY

Asset Lifecycle Management

See Using the Data Migration Workbench for PeopleSoft Asset Profiles

Asset profiles are templates that contain standard depreciation criteria for an asset type and its corresponding asset books. Use the Asset Profile ADS to migrate asset profile data from a test environment to a production environment and validate the data.

ASSET PROFILE

Bank Reconciliation

See Migrating Bank Reconciliation Application and Configuration Data

Data sets for bank reconciliation are used to migrate or move bank reconciliation rules or reconciliation rules for a bank account from one environment to another environment.

TR_BANK_RECON_RULE

TR_BANK_ACCT_RCN_RULE

Business Process Weaver

See Using the Data Migration Workbench for PeopleSoft Business Process Weaver.

PeopleSoft Business Process Weaver provides a framework for stringing together key jobs.

You can use the ADS definitions to migrate the Business Process Definitions, Task Registry, Business Process Run Controls, and Business Process Weaver Application Class registry between databases—and ultimately to your production environments.

COMP_BPW_APPCLS_REG

COMP_BPW_PROC_DEFN

COMP_BPW_PROC_RUN

COMP_BPW_TASK_REG

Contracts - Accounting Rules

See Using the Data Migration Workbench for PeopleSoft Accounting Rules

Accounting Rules are used to generate billing and revenue accounting entries. You can create and test Accounting Rules in a test databases, and use ADS definitions to move them to other databases or to the production database when finalized.

ACCOUNTING RULES

Data Export Import Utility

See Using Application Data Sets to Migrate DEIU Data

The Data Export Import Utility is a data-mapping utility that empowers you to map fields easily and to interface both incoming and outgoing data between source and target. ADS is used to move setup data for DEIU from testing databases into production.

Expenses

Migrating Data Using Application Data Sets

ADS simplifies the administration, testing, and transfer of setup data between databases. ADS records are delivered in PeopleSoft Expenses for:

  • Expense Types, Expense Type Groups, Expense Type Categories

  • Expense Locations, Location Amounts

  • Approval Workflow configuration (Approver Stages, Refinement Templates, Risk Templates)

  • Roles & Privilege Templates (employee & approver)

  • Per Diem (including Range Categories, Ranges, Per Diem Amounts, Formulas)

General Ledger - Allocations

See Using the Data Migration Workbench for PeopleSoft Allocations

Allocations are used to apportion amounts such as costs and revenues to lines of business, departments, and so on. It is advantageous to create the Allocations setup in a development database and use ADS definitions to migrate configurations to test databases, and ultimately to a production database, for example.

ALLOCATION_GROUP

General Ledger - Closing Rules and Groups

See Using the Data Migration Workbench for PeopleSoft Closing Rules and Closing Process Groups

Closing rules define how General Ledger calculates retained earnings and carries forward balances to the new year. Closing process groups include one or more closing rules that you define.

PeopleSoft delivers Application Data Sets (ADS) to migrate closing rule and closing process group setup data from one database to another.

GL_CLOSE_DEFN

GL_ CLOSE_GRP

Note: The GL_CLOSE_GRP is enabled with related data sets. Enabling this related data set during the creation of a project helps to copy the corresponding Closing Rule along with the Closing Process Group.

General Ledger - Combination Editing

See Understanding the Data Migration Workbench for Combination Editing

Combination editing is an optional feature that is used to filter unwanted journal entry lines. The combination editing process compares the combination of ChartFields and their values to combination definition and rules that you define.

GL_COMBO_GROUP

GL_COMBO_RULE

GL_COMBO_DEFN

Note: The GL_COMBO_GROUP is enabled with Related Data Sets. Enabling the related data sets GL_COMBO_DEFN and GL_COMBO_RULE during the creation of a project helps to copy the corresponding Combo Definition and Rule data along with Combo Group.
