Purpose

This document includes important, late-breaking information about this release of Oracle Smart View for Office. Review this Readme thoroughly before installing Smart View.

Analyze Advanced Predictions in Smart View

Applies to: Planning, FreeForm

You can now use Advanced Predictions in Oracle Smart View for Office to view prediction data in forms and improve forecasting by learning the explanation of the generated predictions. With Advanced Predictions, you can predict using Light GBM, XGBoost, Prophet, and SARIMAX algorithms, or use Oracle AutoMLx, which runs all of these algorithms and selects the best option with the best results for you.

In Smart View, Advanced Predictions are available only in forms. To analyze Advanced Predictions data in Smart View, open a form that contains Advanced Predictions results, right-click on a data cell, and select Explain Prediction in the right-click context menu. A new sheet opens the prediction analysis displaying the Predictive Analysis chart with details table, and the Feature Importance chart.

To review prediction analysis using a different algorithm, you can select the required algorithm in the Version page dimension in the Advanced Predictions form and then use the Explain Prediction option.

For more information, see Using Advanced Predictions in Smart View in Oracle Smart View for Office User's Guide.

Enhancements in IPM Insights in Smart View

Applies to: Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Tax Reporting

You can now add comments and tags in insight comments, review insight summaries generated using Generative AI (GenAI), and open insight sheets in ad hoc analysis mode using a new right-click option in Oracle Smart View for Office. As an administrator, you can run, duplicate, and delete IPM jobs and download the job report in Smart View.

In release 26.100, support for the following enhancements has been added in Smart View.

Collaborate on Insight Comments with Tags

You can now collaborate with other users over insights by using custom tags and user or group name tags in your comments.

You can add custom hashtags in your comments to filter and search related insights better. For example, #new, #ActionItem, or #Top10. To add a custom hashtag, type # in the comment text box in the Add/Delete Insight Comments dialog box. You can select from the list or available hashtags or enter a new hashtag. You can then use these custom hashtags to filter insights in the IPM Insights dialog box based on the specific tag.

You can tag other users or groups in your comments to add them to the conversation on an insight. For example, @Jane, @John Smith, or @sales_west. To tag a user or group, type @ followed by a user name or group name in the comments text box. You can then use the user or group name tags to filter insights in the IPM Insights dialog box based on the tagged user or group.

See Collaborating on Insights Using Comments and Tags.

Review Insight Summaries

You can now review AI summaries generated for a single insight as well as a set of insights, when you insert an IPM insight in a Microsoft Excel sheet or a Microsoft PowerPoint slide using Smart View. Summaries help you understand insights better by adding meaningful information and providing a narrative for explaining the charts. Insight summaries are automatically generated using Generative AI (GenAI) for a single insight or a set of insights. The insight summaries that are generated and available on the Insights dashboard in the web application are displayed in Smart View.

  • For a single insight, the summary provides additional context beyond the brief rule-based chart description in the insight. On inserting an insight, you can review this summary in the Insights AI Summary section, displayed next to the chart.
  • For a set of multiple insights, based on a parent member, the summary evaluates the parent member and all of its children. This summary can help you find the root cause for the insight, and makes it easy to share an analysis of a set of insights with your team. You can review the list of available summaries in the IPM Insights dialog box by clicking Show Summaries button.

See Reviewing Insight Summaries.

Analyze Insight Sheet Using a New Right-Click Option

In Smart View, you can open the data table associated with an insight in ad hoc analysis mode and perform various ad hoc analysis operations provided by Smart View. In addition to opening an insights sheet directly in ad hoc analysis mode, you can now perform ad hoc analysis on an insight sheet after inserting an insight in a Microsoft Excel.

After inserting an insight, right-click in the sheet, and select Analyze under Smart View menu to open the data table in ad hoc analysis mode in a separate sheet.

See Analyzing Insights in Ad Hoc Grids.

Insert Multiple Insights At Once in Microsoft PowerPoint

Earlier, you could insert only one insight at a time in Microsoft PowerPoint. Now, you can select multiple insights in the IPM Insights dialog box and insert them all at once in your PowerPoint file. Each insight is inserted on a new slide and the respective insight statement appears in the slide title, to help you identify the inserted insights. You can edit the slide title as per your requirement.

See Inserting Insights in Smart View.

For more information on working with IPM in Smart View, see Using IPM Insights in Smart View in Oracle Smart View for Office User's Guide.

Manage IPM Jobs in Smart View

Applies to: Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Tax Reporting

As an administrator, you can now run and manage the IPM Insights and Auto Predict jobs in Oracle Smart View for Office. Running these jobs at regular intervals helps you to fetch the latest insights based on changes in your business data.

In the Smart View Home Panel, right-click the application name and then click IPM Configure to view the list of available jobs in the IPM Configure dialog box. In the IPM Configure dialog box, you can view the name of the job, its type (Insights or Auto Predict), the cube name to which it is associated with, the date and time when the job was last modified, the date and time when the job was last run, and the current status of the job (Processing, Completed, Error, Completed with Error, and so on).

You can perform the following actions on IPM jobs:

  • Filtering IPM Jobs
  • Running an IPM Job
  • Deleting an IPM Job
  • Duplicating an IPM Job
  • Downloading an IPM Job Report

For more information, see Managing IPM Jobs in Smart View in Oracle Smart View for Office User's Guide.

Dimension Hierarchy Display for Descendants in Report Prompts

Applies to: Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Tax Reporting

In Reports, when responding to prompts with the Descendants() and Descendants(Inclusive) single member selection functions and a predefined choice list, the choice list in the Select dialog for the selected dimension is now displayed in the left pane in a hierarchical format by default, instead of a flat list format.

If no choice list is defined, then the Member Selection dialog is displayed.

After making selections for each prompt, whether in the Select dialog for the dimension or in the Member Selection dialog, click OK to continue. If you are prompted for the POV, complete those selections. The report is then imported onto the sheet.

In the Select dialog for a selected dimension:

  • You may enter search terms into the search text box, and then click the Search button to filter the results in the left pane.

  • You may switch the display in the left pane to a flat list, and back to a hierarchy, as required, using the Show Hierarchy check box.

  • If multiple members are selected from the hierarchical choice list or the flat list, they are always displayed in the right pane as a flat list.

  • Prompts for Children and Bottom functions continue to be shown as a flat list in both the left and right panes.

With this feature, when responding to report prompts, the hierarchical choice list makes it easier to navigate through a large number of members at different levels.

For more information, see:

Faster Artifact Search in Smart View Panel

The search box in the Smart View panel has been improved to make your search experience faster and responsive.

Earlier, you had to enter a search term and press Enter to initiate the search. Now, as you type the search term, the Smart View panel starts displaying the search results instantly, without pressing Enter. For example, if you start typing the letter "p", the artifacts containing the letter "p" appear in the search results. As you continue to type "plan", the search results further filter to now display artifacts with the word "plan" in them. You can also copy and paste a search term directly in the search box.

The search results appear as a flat list (instead of the hierarchical tree view) and the artifacts are displayed along with their respective icons for easy identification.

You can press Enter to verify that all matching search results are displayed. This ensures that the latest artifacts created in your business process application are fetched and searched, especially if you cannot find the required artifact in the initial search results.

For more information, see Searching for Forms and Other Artifacts.

Faster Responsive Search in Member Selection and Cell-Based POV

The ability to search for members in the Member Selection dialog box and in the cell-based POV has been improved to make your search experience faster and responsive.

Applies to: Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Tax Reporting

You can now experience real-time, look-ahead search powered by Suggest REST API while searching for members in the Member Selection dialog box and in cell-based, in-grid POV search box. This enhancement requires Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Performance Management 26.06+.

As you start typing in the search box, the results are displayed instantly, thus significantly reducing the time to locate the right member.

For example, if you start typing the letters "to", the members containing the letters "to" appear in the search results. As you continue to type "total", the search results now display member names containing the word "total" in them. You do not have to initiate the search by pressing Enter or clicking the Find button. You can select the required member in the search result and click Refresh to view the updated details.

Note the following changes in the new member search experience:

  • You can search using both member names and aliases.
  • The members in the search results are displayed as a flat list, instead of the hierarchical tree view.
  • The new search experience is supported only for Cloud EPM data sources.
  • For on-premises data sources and environments where the Suggest REST API service is not available, the earlier search experience of typing the search term and initiating search using Enter or the Find button continues to work without any changes.

Take Action on Planning Approval Units directly in Forms

You can now review approval information and take action on Planning approval units directly from forms in Oracle Smart View for Office.

Applies to: Planning

A new right-click context menu now provides quick access to approval actions such as Start, Approve, Reject, Delegate, and so on. This enhancement provides a faster and convenient way of taking action on approval units, in addition to the Approvals menu on the Planning ribbon. This enhancement requires Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Performance Management 26.06+.

Service administrators design forms to display a record of all approval units along with details such as current status, owner, previous owner, last action taken and so on. Users can use these forms to get a single view of their approval units and take action from the form itself, instead of going to the individual units through the Approvals menu. The actions available in the right-click context menu vary depending on the status of the approval unit.

To take action on approval units, right-click the cell containing the approval unit. The actions specific for that particular unit are displayed in the right-click context menu. Once you can select an action, the Change Status dialog box appears. You can select the next owner, enter your own annotations, and view the annotation history. When you submit the details, the form is refreshed to display the new status and the new owner of the approval unit.

For more information, see Performing Form-Based Approvals in Oracle Smart View for Office User's Guide.

Connection Display for Narrative Reporting Private Connections Created Using the Wizard

Narrative Reporting connections created using the Private Connection Wizard are now displayed as URLs, making it easier to locate the connection you require.

Previously, Narrative Reporting connections created in this manner were listed as "EPRCS," the former acronym for Narrative Reporting. In cases where users had created connections to multiple Narrative Reporting data sources, this could make it difficult to access the connection needed at any given moment.

With the Narrative Reporting data source URL listed in the private connection drop-down menu, it's now easier to locate and select the data source you require.

For more information on creating private connections using the wizard, see Using the Private Connection Wizard in the Oracle Smart View for Office User's Guide.

Microsoft Windows Operating System and .NET Support

Oracle Smart View for Office 26.100 is supported on Windows 11, and requires a supported version of Microsoft .NET Framework. Oracle recommends using .NET Framework 4.8 or higher.

Note:

For information on additional Windows operating system support, see the matrix for your release in Supported Platforms Matrices.

Microsoft Office Support

Microsoft Office 2021 and 2024

Oracle Smart View for Office supports Microsoft Office 2021 and 2024.

Note:

Office 2016 and Office 2019 users: Microsoft stopped supporting Office 2016 and Office 2019 as of October 14, 2025 as per their announcement in End of support for Office 2016 and Office 2019. Oracle Smart View for Office 25.100 was the last Smart View release to support Office 2016 and Office 2019. Starting release 25.200 onwards, Oracle Smart View for Office no longer supports Office 2016 and Office 2019.

Microsoft Office 365

Smart View for Windows requires locally installed supported versions of Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Office 365 ProPlus installed using Click-to-Run. Smart View (Mac and Browser) provides an interface between Oracle's Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Performance Management solutions and Microsoft Office 365 deployed either in a web browser on Windows or Mac systems, or on Office for Mac.

For more information, see the Knowledge Article entitled Smart View Support Matrix and Compatibility FAQ (Doc ID 1923582.1):

https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?id=1923582.1

Note:

Some Office 365 users may face issues viewing drop-down list values in Smart Lists, member drop-down menus, in-cell POVs, and other drop-down lists. For example, on clicking any drop-down list in a cell, only an ellipses (…) may be displayed instead of the actual drop-down values. Users will need to upgrade to Smart View 22.200 or later in order to see the drop-down list values properly in cells.

Browser Add-ons

You can use Oracle Smart View for Office to interact with supported browser-based applications in Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Performance Management and Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System in these ways:

  • Starting in a form or ad hoc grid in Smart View, use drill-through to launch an application web page in a browser.

  • Starting in a web application, launch a form or ad hoc grid in Smart View for Excel.

  • Starting in a Task List in Smart View, opening a task in a browser.

Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge require a Smart View add-on for drill-through, web launch, and opening a task in a browser from Smart View.

Note:

Starting with the Cloud EPM 20.09 update and EPM System 11.2.2 release, Internet Explorer 11 is no longer supported, based on the Microsoft recommendation that Internet Explorer users move to the new Microsoft Edge as their default browser. Because Oracle will no longer test Cloud EPM and EPM System using Internet Explorer, existing functionality that currently works with Internet Explorer may no longer work starting with the 20.09 update or release 11.2.2. For more information, see Browser Version Support.

Oracle recommends that all users move to a supported browser.

Browser extension installation instructions are in the Oracle Smart View for Office Installation and Configuration Guide, Installing Browser Add-ons.This guide is available in the Smart View library on the Oracle Help Center here:

https://docs.oracle.com/en/applications/enterprise-performance-management/index.html

Browser Version Support

Oracle Smart View for Office does not have a browser version dependency; however, it is possible that the products that Smart View works with do.

For your platforms and products, check the system requirements and supported platforms documents, and specific product readmes for any additional browser support requirements.

Note:

Do not uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer, even after the end-of support date of June 15, 2022. Instead, you may securely disable Internet Explorer following Microsoft’s guidelines. In situations where the Internet Explorer browser would be called, the Edge browser will be launched instead.

Smart View does not require the Internet Explorer browser specifically. However, Smart View depends on WinInet APIs that may have dependencies on Internet Explorer. Microsoft recommends keeping Internet Explorer installed on the machine since uninstalling may cause other applications that are dependent on it to work incorrectly. Microsoft also recommends updating to the latest security patches as they become available.

For more information, see Oracle Support Document 2877741.1, Impact on Smart View with Microsoft decommissioning Internet Explorer 11 on June 15, 2022.

Microsoft Edge WebView2 Support

Microsoft Edge WebView2 is required to be installed on each user’s computer.

Certain authentication schemes require newer controls, such as WebView2, to process a complex login sequence. To use WebView2, ensure that Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is installed and enabled on each Oracle Smart View for Office client machine.

During runtime, Smart View detects the presence of Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime installed on the machine and launches the WebView2-based dialog to host the login page.

Note:

  • Smart View began supporting WebView2 in release 23.210. For full support for WebView2, the latest Smart View version is recommended.
  • Microsoft Edge WebView became a requirement starting in Smart View 25.200.
  • WebView2 is supported only on Microsoft Windows 11.

  • Although WebView2 is supported on Windows 11, there may be instances where you are working with Smart View on a Windows Server version, such as Windows Server 2022, with WebView2 installed and enabled. In these cases, after initial login to an Office application, such as Excel, if you attempt to use Smart View in another Office application, you will be required to log in again. For example, if you are copying and pasting data points from Excel to Word, you will be required to log in to Excel, and then log in again to Word.

This is due to Office applications not sharing the WebView2 data folder. Any functionality that relies on the shared data folder will not work as expected. The result is that users will need to log in and disconnect independently for each Office application on Windows Server.

  • In the Health Check dialog in Smart View, the WebView2 Runtime option is set to Enable for All by default.
  • For two-factor authentication login scenarios, in the Health Check dialog, the WebView2 Runtime option must be set to Enable for UI or Enable for All.

Once WebView2 is installed on Smart View client machines, users can enable or disable it in the Smart View Options section of the Health Check dialog (described in Performing a Health Check On Your System in the Oracle Smart View for Office User's Guide).

Administrators can also enable or disable WebView2 by editing the Smart View properties.xml file (present by default in C:\Oracle\SmartView\cfg) and then distributing this file to users.

These are the configuration settings for enabling and disabling WebView2 in properties.xml:

  • Enable for All (the default setting):

    <disableWebView2>0</disableWebView2>

    <useWebView2forNetworking>1</useWebView2forNetworking>

  • Enable for UI:

    <disableWebView2>0</disableWebView2>

    <useWebView2forNetworking>0</useWebView2forNetworking

  • Disable:

    <disableWebView2>1</disableWebView2>

    <useWebView2forNetworking>0</useWebView2forNetworking>

Administrators: If WebView2 is required to handle the login sequence used by your organization, then you should ensure that Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is installed and enabled on the machines running Smart View. If you are installing Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, Oracle recommends using the Evergreen version.

Once installed, Microsoft distributes WebView2 updates on a regular cadence, unless a fixed version was installed. Administrators can use their own internal procedures to download and distribute Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime to Smart View users. The download is here:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/webview2-install#webview2-runtime-installation

For more information, see the WebView2 documentation.

The look-ahead search supports incremental searching by member name or alias, includes shared members in search results, and changes the search and display behavior when the alias table is changed. For more information, see Faster Responsive Search in Member Selection and Cell-Based POV.

Reports

38703670 – When inserting the same report with changed or edited POVs multiple times in the same Microsoft Excel workbook, the earlier inserted Reports sheets are retained and not deleted from the workbook.

Essbase

These defects are fixed in this release:

  • 38105037 – While connecting to Essbase Cloud 21c from Smart View, after submitting the login credentials, the login dialog closes automatically and the "Oracle Essbase Provider Services" banner is no longer displayed
  • 38430381 – After calling the HypExecuteMenu VBA function, when the HypSetAliasTable VBA function is called, cell members do not move or shift to another position in the Microsoft Excel sheet.
  • 38173463 – Microsoft Excel no longer crashes when using Submit Without Refresh, or when performing the Submit Without Refresh operation for a second time.

Financial Management

31413839 – In Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, opening data grid and data form from the web application now open correctly even if Microsoft Excel is not open before opening the grid or form.

Known Issues

General

  • 33992974 – When working in a two-monitor scenario using a laptop screen and an external monitor screen in extended mode, Oracle Smart View for Office may not able to recognize selections in the POV. This is due to having different resolution and scaling settings on each screen, which can result in false clicks where some UI clicks are not captured.

Workaround: If your display resolution settings are different between the laptop monitor and the external monitor with extended display, use the same scale settings on both screens. For information on monitor display settings, see the Microsoft article, How to use multiple monitors in Windows.
  • 34032813 – After installing Smart View as a System user, when Excel is launched for the first time, the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER, or HKCU is updated with the location of the HsTbar.xla file. While uninstalling Smart View, the HKCU entries are not removed automatically. After uninstalling Smart View, when Excel is launched for the first time, Excel tries to locate the HsTbar.xla file and shows an error stating it could not find the file.

Workaround: To avoid this error, delete the entries from the Windows Registry manually using the steps given in Excel Looks for HsTbar.xla File After Uninstall in the Oracle Smart View for Office Installation and Administration Guide.

  • 34344067 – When attempting to launch certain dialogs, the Script Error dialog is displayed if WebView2 is disabled; for example, you launch the Instructions dialog, and the instructions area is blank and the Script Error dialog is displayed.

Workaround: In the Health Check dialog, ensure that WebView2 Runtime is installed and select Enable for UI, described in Performing a Health Check On Your System in the Oracle Smart View for Office User's Guide.

  • 35116820 – If the Health Check option, WebView2 Runtime, is set to Enable for UI or Enable for All, then you cannot update extensions using the Check for Updates, New Installs, and Uninstalls in the Smart View Options dialog.

Workaround: In the Health Check dialog, set the WebView2 Runtime option to Disable. Restart Office. Then proceed with the extension update (or install or uninstall) using the Check for Updates, New Installs, and Uninstalls link in the Options dialog. When you’re finished with extension update tasks, reenable the WebView2 Runtime option in the Health Check dialog and restart Office.

  • 35728359 – When performing drill-through to an Excel sheet, data value amounts on the sheet are shown in US format (with . as the decimal separator) and not in the regional format (with , as the decimal separator).

  • 36401841 – When WebView2 is enabled, selecting outside of a WebView2 dialog, such as the Sign In dialog, switches focus to the Excel application.

Workaround: Select the Excel icon from the task bar and select the login dialog.

  • 39163160 – While refreshing a sheet, an error appears stating that response vals has number of values different from request. This happens due to session timeout as a result of keeping the sheet idle for a prolonged period of time.

Workaround: After seeing this error, refresh the sheet again. The functions in the sheet are refreshed properly.

  • 39128111 – Excel may crash when WebView2 is set to Enabled for UI and Disconnect All operation is performed.

Workaround: In cases where Enabled for UI is required (instead of Enabled for All), set the registry setting PreserveThirdPartyCookies to "0" (default value is 1). This setting is found in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HyperionSmartView\Options. For more information, see WebView2 and Disconnect Issues.

Cloud EPM

Note:

Unless otherwise noted, the known issues described in this topic apply to the Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Performance Management business processes of Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, and Tax Reporting.

These are the known issues related to Cloud EPM:

  • 34372232 – In ad hoc grids connected to Standard-mode applications, when repeated members are suppressed, the Preserve Format option does not preserve any formatting changes done for data cells corresponding to the repeated members. The formatting changes are lost on refreshing the grid.
