Stock Ledger Report Narrative Insights

With the Narrative Insights feature, you can use generative AI to highlight trends in your Stock Ledger Report. This feature summarizes critical information, including total input and output quantities, ending inventory value, items with negative inventory, and items present in multiple locations. This insight is especially useful for Warehouse Managers, Supply Chain Managers, and Accountants looking to optimize inventory strategy and spot potential risks.

The summary is generated using AI and reflects only the filtered data shown in your current report. Exact figures, document numbers, dates, and categories are preserved, with no rounding, averaging, or inferred calculations.

Note:

This feature is currently available only in Classic mode. Availability is subject to account region and language preferences. For more information, see Generative AI Feature Availability in NetSuite.

This feature provides the following key benefits:

• See report key highlights, such as total input and output quantities, and total ending inventory value

• Flag inventory issues, including items with negative ending inventory

• Identify items managed across multiple locations, and where they are distributed

• Provides suggestion-oriented takeaways to inform inventory planning and operations

• Saves time by reducing the need for manual report review

This feature is available only to standard roles. To use this feature, your assigned role must have Reports > Inventory permission. Typical roles include Accountant, Warehouse Manager, and others.

The Enable Narrative Insights preference on the AI Preferences page controls whether you can generate insights. This preference is enabled by default. Users with an Administrator role can disable this preference at any time. For more information about Narrative Insights preferences, see Managing Narrative Insights Preferences.

To generate an insight from the Stock Ledger Report:

1. Go to Reports > Inventory/Items > Stock Ledger Report (Administrator).

2. Apply the necessary filters, such as subsidiary, date range, or location.

3. Click the Generate Insight button.

   The Narrative Insights dialog displays the AI-generated narrative insight for your current results.

The insight includes the following details:

• Summary paragraph: Briefly states overall inventory findings and total figures in a neutral tone (without referencing specific items or categories).

• Key Points:

  • Total input quantity, output quantity, and ending inventory value for the period

  • Items with negative on-hand quantities, including details by location (up to two items)

  • Items present in multiple locations

• Key Takeaways: Suggestion-oriented insights, mentioning relevant items and quantities, focused on helping you take action.

The AI-generated summary maintains precision and references only the data shown on your report.

Before using this feature, note the following:

• Data Privacy and Accuracy: The Narrative Insights dialog uses AI to generate content from your NetSuite data. Verify all information with your underlying reports. Insights may differ each time they're generated, even for the same data.

• Limitations: AI does not perform calculations, inference, or rounding. If the report lacks sufficient data for a summary, an error message may appear.

• Support: For access issues, feature questions, or troubleshooting, contact your account administrator or NetSuite Customer Support.
