Adding a Subcategory

You can add a subcategory to a parent category to better organize your items. Subcategories can have their own subcategories, and you can link the same subcategory to more than one parent category. For example, you might add Backpacks as a subcategory under both Kids and Back to School. To have the same subcategory under multiple parent categories, add the subcategory to the first parent category and then associate it with the additional parent categories. For more information, see xxxxxxxxx

To add a subcategory:

  1. Log in to Site Management Tools. For details, see Logging into Site Management Tools.

  2. Click the Overview Mode icon Overview Mode Icon on the site management toolbar.

  3. In the category list, go to a category or subcategory row and click Add Subcategory, denoted by the +.

You can also click the ellipsis and select New Subcategory from the More Actions menu.

  4. Select the General subtab.

  5. Set the visibility dates for the category. Choose from Always Visible or Visible on Specific Dates. For details, see Visibility Dates for Categories.

  6. In the Name field, enter a name for the category. The name identifies the category in NetSuite and can also be used in category navigation.

  7. The Heading field is automatically populated based on what is entered in the Name field, but you can change it. The heading is displayed at the top of the subcategory page (if the page template file supports it).

  8. The URL Fragment is the part of the web address that points to the subcategory page. The full URL is your domain, any parent fragments, and the one you set here.

  9. Select the Metadata subtab.

  10. In the Title field, enter what you want to appear as the page title in the browser tab.

  11. In the Meta Description field, enter a short summary of the page. This is important for your store and usually shows up in search results. The description is set as the value for the content attribute for the meta description element for this subcategory page.

  12. In the Meta Keywords field, add keywords (separated by commas) for the subcategory page.

  13. Select the Advanced subtab.

  14. In the Add to <head> field, you can include HTML, CSS, or JavaScript to go between the <head> tags on the subcategory page.

  15. Click Save.

Note:

You can also create a subcategory by moving a root level category to a subcategory position in the hierarchy tree. For more information, see Moving a Category or Subcategory.
