SCIS User Guide Overview

This section gives sales associates and sales managers information about how to operate SuiteCommerce InStore (SCIS). It also covers the user interface, entering transactions, and customer records. For administrator information, see SuiteCommerce InStore Administrator’s Overview.

SCIS is a web-based point-of-sale application. It has a touch-based interface made for tablets. You don't need a special point-of-sale hardware. SCIS supports common point-of-sale peripherals, such as credit card readers, printers, barcode scanners, and cash drawers.

Important:

You need the SuiteCommerce InStore mobile app when using SCIS on an iPad or on a tablet or computer with the Windows operating system. You can't use SCIS on a desktop or laptop computer with a web browser such as Safari, Chrome, or Firefox.

Integration with NetSuite

SCIS is built to integrate natively with NetSuite. The SuiteCommerce InStore SuiteApp is installed in your organization’s NetSuite account. Sales associates use the secure SCIS POS application to access SCIS. All data SCIS uses is stored in and retrieved from NetSuite. This lets SCIS use other NetSuite product areas, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Commerce web stores, and Customer Relationship management (CRM).

Access to Customer Profiles

The Customer Profile gives the sales associate a complete view of a customer's purchase activity. The Customer Timeline shows purchases, returns, shipments, and dates of customer interactions with the call center. To access the Customer Profile and Timeline, the sales associate taps the customer’s name.

Roles and Permissions

Each employee who'll use SCIS needs to have one of the custom roles added to NetSuite when SuiteCommerce InStore is installed. If needed, an administrator can customize a role to comply with the business needs of the organization. To log in to SCIS, each user enters login credentials based on their assigned role.

The SuiteCommerce InStore SuiteApp installs a basic set of permissions for common retail operations, such as voiding lines and applying discounts. Employees using SCIS need the correct NetSuite permissions to perform these operations. The SCIS Permission custom record,is used to manage restricted operations that require authorization. For more information, read SCIS Roles and Permissions.
