Automatic Tax Records Provisioning for the United States
When you select the SuiteTax Engine for a subsidiary with a US nexus, NetSuite creates these tax records to generate tax codes:
-
tax agency
-
accounts to post tax on sales and purchase transactions
-
tax types
-
State Tax
-
County Tax
-
City Tax
-
District Tax
-
Not Liable
For each tax type except Not Liable, you'll need to set separate sales and use taxes.
-
-
Tax codes – all tax codes applicable for the selected nexus (that is all state, county, city and district taxes).
-
Tax groups – groups of tax codes for a certain area, including ZIP+4 information. For more information, see Setting Up Tax Groups in SuiteTax Engine
Don't delete or inactivate system-generated tax accounts, because they'll be created again during monthly updates. You can rename them as needed, or create a new account and assign it to your tax types.
For OneWorld accounts, NetSuite sets up tax records automatically after you assign SuiteTax to the subsidiary's registration. For single instance accounts, you'll need to do it manually.
To set up tax records manually for single instance accounts:
-
Go to Setup > SuiteTax Engine > Tax Engine Data Provisioning.
-
Check the box for the nexus where you want to create tax codes.
-
Click Run Data Provisioning.
To see all countries NetSuite supports for monthly tax rates updates, see Countries Supported for Tax Rate Updates in the SuiteTax Engine
