Assigning Additional Subsidiaries to a Customer

If you use the Multi Subsidiary Customer feature of NetSuite OneWorld, the standard customer record form includes a Subsidiaries subtab. This subtab enables you to assign the secondary subsidiaries that can share this customer.

The customer’s primary subsidiary is automatically included on the Subsidiaries subtab. When you select this customer on a transaction, the subsidiary defaults to the primary subsidiary. You can change the default value on the transaction to any assigned secondary subsidiary.

You must individually add each subsidiary that is to share this customer. Subsidiaries within a subsidiary do not automatically share the customer. You can add a subsidiary to the customer record anytime.

You can remove an assigned subsidiary only if no transactions are associated with the customer and that subsidiary. You cannot remove an assigned subsidiary if the customer is also a vendor with vendor transactions associated with the subsidiary. For more information, see Records as Multiple Types.

For information about creating new subsidiary records or deactivating existing records, see Creating Subsidiary Records.

The customer has access to the primary subsidiary’s transactions in the Customer Center. If the Customer Center role uses Allow Cross-Subsidiary Record Viewing, the customer can see transactions for all its subsidiaries. Without Allow Cross-Subsidiary Record Viewing, the customer can see transactions for all subsidiaries that have been specifically made visible in the Customer Center role. For more information, see Customizing the Customer Center Role and Restricting Role Access to Subsidiaries (OneWorld Only).

If your user role includes access to a subsidiary and the Customers permission, you can view and edit customer records associated with that subsidiary. If your role also includes the Allow Cross-Subsidiary Record Viewing option, you can view and edit customer records associated with any subsidiary.

To assign an additional subsidiary:

  1. Go to Lists > Relationships > Customers, and click Edit to the left of the customer name.

  2. In the Subsidiaries subtab, select a subsidiary other than the primary subsidiary, which is already listed.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Repeat the previous two steps as appropriate.

  5. Click Save.
