Item Manager: Features

This page is accessed via

  • Order Management > Material Management > Item. Click the Features tab.
  • Classification > Items. Click the Features tab.
  • Master Data > Items. Click the Features tab.

Use this tab to specify additional attributes for an item. First, you can describe specific item features, like size or color. You can also define references that associate one item with another. Finally, you can set up relationships between items for when they must ship together.

Note: The data entered in this tab is informational and is not used in shipment planning or other functions.

Attributes

You can assign specific attributes to an item such as size or color. An item can have more than one item feature associated with it.

A good example of how item features work is to think of a catalog retailer. They could have a shirt whose SKU is 12345. However, that one item could come in three different colors and four different sizes. In this example, the Item Attribute Qualifier would be SIZE, and the Item Attribute Value would be SMALL. You would then set up three more Item Feature Values (MEDIUM, LARGE, and X_LARGE), all with the Items Feature Qualifier of SIZE. You would then do the same thing for the shirt's colors (RED, GREEN, and BLUE for the Item Feature Values, with the Item Feature Qualifier set to COLOR).

  1. Enter an Item Attribute Qualifier ID that describes the feature for the item.
  2. Enter an Item Attribute Value.
  3. If applicable, enter an Effective Date and Expiration Date to specify when the item attribute qualifier and item attribute value applies to the item.
  4. Click Save for each item attribute value you define.

Note: Feature attributes are copied from a parent order base when orders are released. These attributes do not appear on a shipment that was planned from an order release.

Item BOM

Sometimes items must ship with other items. One item serves as the parent, and the other as the child.

For example, if you ship a flashlight, and two AA batteries with it, then the Item ID for the flashlight would be the Parent Item ID, and the Child Item Count would be 2. Note that in this example the item that you are defining is the battery.
