Brokerage and Forwarding

Select Template

This page is accessed via Brokerage and Forwarding > Booking > Freight Forwarding. Then click on the New button to create a new freight forwarding order release.

This page allows you to create a new Freight Forwarder Order Release. You can create an order release from nothing or speed up the process by selecting different templates to be applied.

Note: Some freight forwarding properties need to be set for this page and various sections to appear.

If you create an order release by using a template, Oracle Transportation Management automatically completes the fields that were predefined on the template; for example, the Pickup and Delivery Locations and the details of what is being shipped (line item or ship unit list near the bottom of the page). Once you have applied a template, you can change any of the default data that appears on the order.

You have the following template options when creating an order release:

  • Domain template
  • Customer template
  • Buyer template
  • Standard template
  • A combination of the customer, buyer, and standard template. In this scenario, the customer template is applied first, followed by the buyer and standard template.
  • Note: You can also create an order without a template by leaving the page blank.

Domain Template

Configure a domain template using the domain manager.

Customer Template

Configure a customer template by using the Customer Management menu option. By default, the customer ID is set to the domain that you are working in. If there are any active customer templates associated to the customer ID you select, the fields defined on the template will populate the new order.

Note: Customers are managed at the domain level. Your domain access dictates the customer templates you can work with, based on your privileges.

Buyer Template

To merge a buyer template onto an order release choose the Buyer and the specific Transport Mode and Move Perspective. Once submitted, Oracle Transportation Management looks to see if there is a template associated with the particular Buyer, Transport mode, and Move Perspective combination entered. If one exists and is active, it is applied to the order. Otherwise, no template is applied.

You can create buyer templates from an Order Release, Order Release Order Template or through Freight Forwarder. To attach the template to a buyer use the Buyer Manager.

When Oracle Transportation Management goes to apply a buyer template onto an order, it follows the Buyer Template Copy Type option chosen within the customer.

Standard Template

Choose a standard order release template from the Select a Template field. Either search for one based on specific selection criteria, or enter the Template ID (if you know it) directly in the field. You can create standard templates from an Order Release, Order Release Order Template or through Freight Forwarder.

When Oracle Transportation Management goes to apply a standard template onto an order, it uses the Copy if Null default process.

Applying Multiple Templates at One Time

Submitting multiple templates at the same time creates a hybrid order release template. If you are applying multiple templates at the same time to an order release, the fields defined on the domain template are first merged onto the order followed by the customer template, the buyer template and then the standard template.

If a customer and buyer template are merged together and the same fields are defined on both, the hybrid order release is formed based on how the Buyer Template Copy Type is set on the customer.

If a customer and standard template are merged together and the same fields are defined on both, the customer template's field data takes precedence over the standard template's field data. However, any field defined on the standard template but not the customer template will be applied to the new order template. This is also true when merging only a buyer and standard template.

For instance, if the source and destination locations were both defined differently on the standard and customer template, the source and destination locations from the customer template would be applied to the newly created order. If no other data from the two templates overlapped, the new order will show the non null remaining fields from both templates.

Generally, the sequence in which the templates are applied to an order release is:

  1. Merge all fields from the customer template onto the new order release.
  2. Merge all fields from the buyer template on to the order. What actually is applied is based on the Buyer Template Copy Type that is set on the customer.
  3. Merge any non-overlapping fields that are not null on the standard template onto the new order release.

Note: Other rules for applying multiple templates to an order are found within the customer.
