On X6-2L 24-disk configuration, HBA internal firmware prevents rear drive selections (Alt-A and Alt-B) from appearing on the Legacy boot option priority list

Bug ID 21663528

Issue: When an Oracle X6-2L server with twenty-four 2.5-inch SSDs/HDDs (plus two rear HDDs) is running in Legacy boot mode, the internal firmware on the Oracle Storage 12 Gb/s SAS PCIe HBA Internal: 8 port currently limits the Legacy boot option priority list to a maximum of 24 disk selections. As a result, the two extra rear boot drive selections (Alt-A and Alt-B) do not appear on the list.

Affected hardware:

  • Oracle Server X6-2L

  • Oracle Storage 12 Gb/s SAS PCIe HBA Internal

Workaround: You can use the Alt-A or Alt-B keypress to select one (but not both) of the rear drives for promotion on the BIOS boot list. To enable the Alt-A or Alt-B keypress, press and hold Ctrl-C at boot time to enter the HBA BIOS utility.

Alternatively, you can use any of the 24 slots on the front of the server if available.

A firmware fix is planned that will expand the bootlist to include the Alt-A and Alt-B drive selections.
