What's New in WebLogic Portal 7.0
Here's what's new in WebLogic Portal 7.0:
Support for WebLogic Server 7.0
WebLogic Portal 7.0 supports WebLogic
Server 7.0. They are both components of WebLogic
Platform 7.0.
New Wizards
The new graphical Portal and Portlet Wizards enable
you to quickly and easily create portals and portlets, based on
existing templates. You can find more information about these wizards in the Developing
PortalsTutorial. The Portlet Wizard provides the ability
to generate portlets from Web Services, including those built using
WebLogic Workshop.
Template for the Configuration Wizard
The Configuration
Wizard automatically sets up (and registers with WebLogic Server)
the server configuration you specify, provides predefined system
administrator roles, lays down the necessary resources to use the
default tax and payment Web services, and sets up a working Tools
Web application for administration. When you select the WebLogic
Portal domain template, the Configuration Wizard also prepares the
Enterprise JavaBeans necessary for commerce and campaign functionality,
as well as those that support BEA-provided events, rules, user management,
pipelines, LDAP support, and personalization.
Improvements to the E-Business Control Center
The E-Business Control Center (EBCC) is a graphical
user interface that provides tools for developing Portal and Web
sites. The EBCC now uses a central project file for easier management
of EBCC data, and includes context-sensitive help that guides users
if and when they need it. For more information, see the E-Business
Control Center online help.
Addition of Visitor-Editable Portal Tab Names
This feature allows developers and administrators
to set up portals so that end-users can modify the text on the tabs
by which they navigate. For more information, see Visitor
and Administrator Features in the Portal Example - Visitor and
Administrator Features tour.
New Portlet Organization Capabilities
The E-Business Control Center now enables you to
group portlets into categories. This make portlets
easier to manage and classify for different users, including administrators, developers,
and visitors.
Sample Portal Application
In addition to the Platform
End-to-End Sample Application, WebLogic Portal provides a second
portal sample application, Avitek Financial (described in the Portal
Example - Portlet Features and Functionality tour). This application
provides many sample portlets and an enterprise financial services
portal that highlights portal foundation services, intelligent administration,
integration services, personalization and interaction management.
New Document Structure
The documentation for WebLogic Portal has been streamlined
to make finding the information you need quicker and easier. In
addition to three tours, it now includes more procedural information
and several tutorials that help you build and administer portals
and Web site.
