Preface

Sun™ Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) Integration Server, Secure Trading Agent, Version 1.0 implements a system that provides for the exchange of business documents between trading partners, according to an agreement between the trading partners. This book, the Sun ONE Integration Server, Secure Trading Agent User's Guide, provides information to both Secure Trading Agent regular users and Secure Trading Agent administrators on how to use Secure Trading Agent to engage in electronic business transactions.

Audience for This Guide

This guide contains sections for both Secure Trading Agent administrators and Secure Trading Agent regular users. The following section, "Organization of This Guide," discusses which chapters apply to each type of Secure Trading Agent user.

For information on the different tasks available for administrators and regular users, refer to "Secure Trading Agent Administration".

Organization of This Guide

This guide is not designed to be read from beginning to end, but instead contains chapters that apply to specific users and tasks. Table 1 briefly describes the contents of each chapter and the intended audience.

Appendix A "Creating Certificates for Use with Secure Trading Agent"

Overview on how to use keytool to acquire certificates from a certificate authority.

Appendix B "Troubleshooting"

All Users

Provides information on how to troubleshoot problems encountered installing and using Secure Trading Agent.

Help messages displayed on each page of the Communications Center and Agreement Editor, providing a brief description of the task at hand. Inline help contains links to the online help pages.

Online Help

Context-sensitive help files provided with the Communications Center and Agreement Editor. The online help guides you through the editing pages of these applications. The online help should be used together with the User's Guide for a complete understanding of using Secure Trading Agent.

Tutorial

Available in PDF and HTML formats. The Secure Trading Agent Tutorial walks you through the creation and deployment of ebXML agreements as well as exchanging messages and business documents with your trading partners. Use the tutorial as a "Quick Start" to using Secure Trading Agent. After completing the tutorial, read the User's Guide for a fuller understanding of Secure Trading Agent.

Command Reference Guide

Available in PDF and HTML formats. The Secure Trading Agent Command Reference Guide provides documentation on commands available for the ebScript utility.

ebScript Help

Command line help available from the ebScript utility. For information on using ebScript and its help, refer to Chapter 7 "Secure Trading Agent Administration" in the Secure Trading Agent User's Guide.

Getting Started

It is recommended that you read the following documentation to get started with Secure Trading Agent:

  1. All Users Read the Release Notes document in its entirety.
  2. Administrators Follow the Registration procedure described in the section "Registration" of the Secure Trading Agent Installation Guide to ensure that your installation is correctly configured to send and receive messages.
  3. All Users Read Chapter 1 "Secure Trading Agent Overview" of the Secure Trading Agent User's Guide to familiarize yourself with ebXML concepts.
  4. Administrators Complete the exercises in the Secure Trading Agent Tutorial for a "Quick Start" on using Secure Trading Agent.
  5. All Users Familiarize yourself with Chapter 2 "Secure Trading Agent Communications Center" and Chapter 3 "Sending and Receiving Messages" of the Secure Trading Agent User's Guide to understand more about using Secure Trading Agent to send and receive messages.
  6. Administrators Familiarize yourself with Chapter 5, "ebXML Agreements," Chapter 6, "Editing ebXML Agreements," and Chapter 7 "Secure Trading Agent Administration" to understand how to create and administer agreements and the Secure Trading Agent application.
