The configuration for the basic definition of the users in a user segment is the same in a multisite environment as it is in an environment with only a single, unregistered site. However, in a multisite environment, you can specify override rules for sites or site groups.

To define user segment rules in a multisite environment, follow the procedure below:

  1. Display the Rules tab for the user segment.

  2. Create a default rule. See Defining User Segment Rules for details about building rules.

    Each user segment must have a default rule. The default rule executes on the current site (the site where the visitor is), unless a site override rule exists for that site.

  3. (Optional) Create a site override rule. See Creating a Site Override Rule for details about selecting sites for the rule. See Defining User Segment Rules for details about building rules.

  4. (Optional) Create a site group override rule. See Creating a Site Group Override Rule for details about selecting site groups for the rule. See Defining User Segment Rules for details about building rules.

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each site or site group override rule you want to create.

  6. When you have finished defining the rules, click Save (or Create).

  7. Follow the steps outlined in Project Basics to mark the Author task as complete and advance the project to the next task, usually Approval. When all tasks are complete, the project can be deployed, and the new segment will be available on the live site.
