Alert Manager

From version 3.0 of the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application on, an alert system can be configured to send various system or user-defined events to a subscriber in charge.

In general, alert messages will only be generated if a Subscriber has been created in the system and the appropriate configurations have been carried out. The alert messages are generated by a permanent background process, the Alert Manager (cp. System -> Interface -> Application ->Alert Manager). For this aplication, a Process Unit of the "OscarClient" type has to be established. In the field Program Name, the name of the application "AlertManager" has to be entered.

Alert messages are stored in the database and can be viewed via the program System -> Alert. Alternatively, alert messages can be sent automatically to one or more subscribers, depending on the Alert type and the corresponding configurations in the field Information Method in the update program Subscriber.

Currently, the following forwarding types can be selected to be the information method:

Configuration of the Alert Manager

The configuration of the alert manager has to be carried out as follows:

  1. Set up a Process Unit of the "OscarClient" type; Program Name= "AlertManager"
  2. Set up Installation Types for the assignment of the Alert Parameters to the various alert types. Please note that you have to assign an Installation Type in the update program System -> Configuration -> Installation to make sure the alert parameters can be evaluated for this installation.
  3. Set up Alert Conditions.
  4. (Optional) Set up User-defined Alert Messages.
  5. For every Alert Parameter, a Subsciber has to be configured.. Depending on the forwarding type (to POS, admin terminal, local printer, e-mail or SMS), the appropriate data have to be entered to make sure the alert message can be sent to the recipient.
  6. For forwarding types via e-mail or SMS, you only have to enter a valid e-mail address for the recipient of the alert message since dedicated routines are deployed in the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS application for this forwarding type..

Alert Messages via E-Mail and SMS

Information Method "E-Mail"

Forwarding alert messages via E-Mail to a particular recipient requires simply selecting „E-Mail“ in the field Information Method in the update program Subscriber and entering the appropriate data in the fields "E-Mail Address", "SMTP Server", "SMTP Port" "und Sender".

Information Method "SMS"

This method is based on the forwarding of an e-mail to a particular address of a service provider (D1, D2, Quam, E-Plus...etc.).

Some examples:

Note!
The mobile phone must be configured for the SMS receipt via e-mail.

Some examples of various service providers:

D1- (T-Mobile)
Send an SMS message containing the text "OPEN" to the D1 number 8000. By sending "CLOSE" to the same number, you can deactivate the option again.

D2- (Vodafone)
Send an SMS message containing the text "OPEN" to the D2 number 3400. By sending "CLOSE" to the same number, you can deactivate the option again.

E-Plus
Send an SMS message containing the text "start" to the E-Plus number 7676245. By sending "stop" to the same number, you can deactivate the option again.

02 (VIAG Interkom)
Send an SMS message containing the text "start" or "+" to the VIAG Interkom number 6245. By sending "stop" or "-" to the same number, you can deactivate the option again..

With mobile phone contracts which have been made via a reseller, a different activation procedure might be required. In these cases ask your service provider.
