Setting Up Integration Between EPM Planning Projects and Project Management (One-Time Setup)

Perform the following tasks to enable integration between EPM Planning Projects and Project Management.

Migration is available if you already have a standalone implementation of EPM Planning Projects or Project Management.

To set up integration between EPM Planning Projects and Project Management:

  1. Enable EPM Planning Projects and the integration options. See Enabling Project Management Cloud Integration.

You must enable Project Management Cloud Integration, Project Reporting, and Expense.

If you have an existing EPM Planning Projects application, you can incrementally enable Project Management Cloud Integration. Additional steps are required when you incrementally enable this option, and are included in this checklist.

  2. Configure EPM Planning Projects if it's not already configured. See Configuring Projects.

If you are incrementally enabling Project Management Cloud Integration, no new configuration tasks are required.

  3. Update the provided Smart List to add Project template names from Project Management. See Creating Custom Smart List Entries for EPM Planning Projects and Project Management Integration.
  4. Set up a connection to the reporting cube. See Setting Up a Connection to the Reporting Cube.

This step is required only if planners will be running Data Integration integrations to import and export data. This step is not required if administrators will be using EPM Planning Projects jobs to import and export data.

  5. In Data Integration, perform additional required setup tasks. See Process Description for Integrating EPM Planning Projects and Oracle Project Management in Administering Data Integration for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud.
  6. Give users access to the rules and integrations that are provided as needed.

For a list of rules provided when you enable Project Management Cloud Integration, see EPM Planning Projects Rules for Integration with Project Management.

For a list of integrations that are provided when you initialize the integration in Data Integration, see Integration Project File Reference in Administering Data Integration for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud.

  7. Optionally, run or schedule jobs to automate the import and export process. See Using Jobs to Import and Export Data Between EPM Planning Projects and Project Management.
  8. If you have an existing standalone implementation of EPM Planning Projects, migrate the existing projects and budgets to support the integration. See Migrating an Existing EPM Planning Projects Implementation to Project Management (One-Time Setup).

  9. If you have an existing standalone implementation of Project Management, migrate the existing projects, budgets, and actuals to support the integration. See Migrating an Existing Project Management Implementation to EPM Planning Projects (One-Time Setup).

Note:

Oracle recommends that you use the new member OPF_Load for loading data. See Updating Projects Artifacts for details.

The project is ready for users to enter projects and project budgets. See Task Overview for Working with Integrated EPM Planning Projects and Project Management in Working with Planning Modules for details on working with projects, project budgets, and Project Management.

For more information about working in Project Management, see "How Enterprise Performance Management Works with Project Management" in Implementing Project Financial Management and Grants Management.

If you change the project owning organization in Project Management after integration, you must manually move the data in EPM Planning Projects to a new entity, and then delete the projects and budget data from the old entity. This option works when there is only entity corresponding to a project in EPM Planning Projects. (In Project Management, one project corresponds to only one entity.)

Your Goal Learn How
Learn how the Projects module in Planning integrates with Oracle Fusion Cloud Project Management. In EPM Planning Projects you create projects, enter summary budget data, approve the projects, then run integration jobs that push the projects and budget data to Project Management. In Project Management, you assign a project manager, create a detailed project budget, and collect actual data for the project. Then in EPM Planning Projects you import the project actuals from Project Management and calculate them so you can perform variance analysis between actual and plan data.
