Review Work Order Before Manual Completion and Submission for Approval

To address potential compliance issues in production reporting, production supervisors need more control over the work order completion process rather than relying on the automatic completion after the last operation. Manual intervention allows additional reporting for scrap or outputs and the opportunity to address missing and incorrect data. 

Using the Redwood user experience, you can review discrete or process manufacturing work order details before completing it with the required approvals.  

• Search and filter work orders based on new statuses: Use the filter for work order statuses to find a work order that has finished production execution and reporting activities using the Work Orders page. The Work Orders page can be accessed from the Actions list on the Work Execution landing page. Alternatively, use the Production Supervision action and select the Work Orders tab to access the page.
  • Awaiting Review for Completion status - The last operation of the work order has been completed, and the work order is under review and awaiting submission for completion approval.

• Pending Completion Approval status - The work order has been submitted for completion approval and is awaiting the outcome of the approval process.

• Take action on a work order awaiting review for completion:
  • Review production and quality inspection data for a work order using the Production Transaction History page under Production Supervision.
  • Resolve production exceptions using the Exceptions page under Production Supervision. 
  • Record, return, and reverse production transactions using the Post Production Reporting page.
• Submit a work order for completion approval: Use the Work Orders page to submit the work order:
  • Submit the selected work order for completion approval using an e-record and e-signature workflow process to ensure formal controls for authorized changes. The work order can be accessed from either the Work Orders (New) page or the Production Supervision page.

• A new deferred process for viewing the generated e-record and capturing e-signatures for work order completion is initiated, changing the work order status to Pending Completion Approval and setting the work order to view only mode.

• Review the automatically generated electronic production record during the e-signature approval process.

Electronic Production Record

• Obtain approvals for work order completion or reject to roll back to the previous status and make changes for resubmission.
• If sign-off is not required, you can directly change the work order status from Awaiting Review for Completion to Completed without enabling the approval workflow.

Adding a review and approval process before work order completion ensures more accurate and compliant production records for operational integrity.

Steps to Enable and Configure

1. Set up the plant parameters to enable this feature:
   • In the Setup and Maintenance work area, search for, and select the Manage Plant Parameters task.
   • On the Manage Plant Parameters page, select the required inventory organization.
   • In the Work Execution tab, under Execute Production, enable the Enable manual completion of work orders checkbox.

2. Configure e-signature preferences by enabling "Manufacturing Work Order Closure Approval" deferred electronic signature approval for an organization under the task "Configure Electronic Signature Preferences". Refer to Configure E-Signature Preferences.
3. After you enable electronic signatures for a transaction, you should also define configurable business process rules in Oracle Business Process Management using the Manage Task Configurations for Supply Chain Management task, and the Manage Approval Groups task in the Setup and Maintenance work area to determine the approvers for each transaction. The task name is WorkOrderDeferredApproval.
4. Enable the 24A feature Generate an Electronic Production Record for a Product to view the Electronic Production Record as part of the electronic record.

Tips And Considerations

• You can configure manual completion of work orders and optionally enable e-records and e-signatures for work order completion depending on the approval requirements using the Redwood user experience.
• You must enable manual completion of work orders in order to enable e-records and e-signatures for work order completion.
• This is applicable only for Process and Discrete Manufacturing work orders. You can't approve maintenance work orders using e-signatures and e-records at this time.
• You can't mass approve work order completion using the e-records and e-signatures process at this time.
• You can't approve work order completion using FBDI or a REST API at this time.
• You can leverage the scheduled process as an alternate method for generating the electronic production record without e-signature approval.

  • Complete an Operation with Variance in a Process Manufacturing Work Order in 25D
  • Generate an Electronic Production Record for a Product in 24A
  • Redwood: View Enhanced Production Transaction History Details When Managing Work Orders and Supervising Production in 26A
  • Redwood: Validate Production Transaction Data for Work Orders Post Production in 26A
  • Review and Approve a Completed Work Order for Closure in 26A
