Contract and Rate Management

Special Services

This page is accessed via Contract and Rate Management > Contract Management > Rate Record. Then select the Special Services tab.

When planning a shipment, you must take into account any special services or accessorial equipment needed for transport or scheduling. A special service is something that the customer requires for a shipment to occur. Special services differ from accessorials in that they qualify rate offerings for shipments. In order for a rate offering to qualify for a shipment, the offering must specify the special services that are required by the shipment. These special services must be specified in the rate offering or record even if they are provided at no cost to the customer. For example, you may want to use the Special Services page to specify that Saturday delivery is available at no extra charge or that special nozzles can be used. If the shipment requires delivery to a construction site but the rate offering does not specify that it can deliver to construction sites, the rate offering does not qualify for that shipment.

Depending on the service provider, some special services may be available at no additional cost while others may require a surcharge (or accessorial). If there is an additional charge for the service, the service can be defined as a special service accessorial.
