Getting Started

Welcome! These topics introduce the Weblogic Enterprise (WLE) system, explain how the features are used to build distributed client and server applications, and describe a set of sample applications that you can use to build your own WebLogic Enterprise applications.

 Getting Started
Presents an overview of the WLE product and describes the development process for creating a simple transactional application. The following topics are included:

  Understanding the WLE Product
  Developing WLE Applications
  Using Security
  Using Transactions

Guide to the University Sample Applications
The University sample applications guide the developer through creating WebLogic Enterprise client and server applications and configuring a WebLogic Enterprise application. Each University sample application demonstrates a new WebLogic Enterprise feature, while building on the experience obtained from the previous sample application. The following sample applications are described:

  Basic Sample
  Security Sample
  Transaction Sample
  Wrapper Sample
  Production Sample

For instructions on setting up the database to run with the University sample applications, see Setting Up Your Samples Environment.

Guide to the Java Sample Applications
The Java sample applications demonstrate the process of developing Java server applications with the WebLogic Enterprise Java product. In addition, the Java sample applications focus on using database products, such as Oracle and Microsoft SQLServer, with a WebLogic Enterprise Java application. The following Java sample applications are described:

  Java Simpapp
  JDBC Bankapp
  XA Bankapp

 Technical Articles
This document provides background information about the CORBA client/server computing model and CORBA objects, and describes two design patterns that you can use to implement good design practices in the WebLogic Enterprise system:

  Process-entity
  Client Data Caching
