For both ATG Content Administration and ATG Merchandising, you need to configure one or more preview URLs as extensions of the view mapping system. The URLs map repository item descriptors to the pages you want to use for preview. Preview buttons are automatically displayed in the ATG Business Control Center editing UI for any asset type that has a preview URL configured.

The procedures you follow to configure the preview URLs for ATG Content Administration and ATG Merchandising are slightly different. For ATG Merchandising, you add the URLs to the Asset Manager framework (see Configuring Asset Manager Preview in this guide). For ATG Content Administration, you add them to the base ATG Content Administration UI framework (see Customizing Asset Display in the ATG Content Administration Programming Guide).

For ATG Outreach, you do not need to perform this step -- a Preview button is provided as a standard feature. Refer to the ATG Outreach documentation for details on using preview in this application.

When a user clicks a Preview button, a dialog box appears that contains a list of the profiles in the preview repository. The user selects the one to use for the preview. For ATG Content Administration and ATG Merchandising, the configured preview page is then displayed within the context of the current project being edited. Note that if the preview page does not reference the type of asset that is being edited, the content will not be shown.
