In addition to managing assets in the product catalog (products, SKUs, categories, and so on) and the relationships among them, commerce sites often need to manage a variety of media items, such as articles, images, audio clips, and video clips. For example, a product detail page may include multiple images of various views of a product, a video clip illustrating uses of the product, and articles about situations in which the product would be desirable. The product catalog provides support for creating and managing a variety of media types, but this support is not always flexible enough for the rich array of content used by some sites.

To provide robust support for Web content, the Oracle Commerce Core Platform includes a content management repository for storing HTML articles and digital media. The repository also supports folders and tags to help you manage this content. Oracle Commerce Merchandising provides tools for creating and modifying items in the content management repository, including a rich text editor for authoring articles.
