How to Enable Multipathing

The multipathing feature automatically recognizes Oracle-supported devices. This procedure describes how to enable multipathing on all multipath-capable devices. If you want to enable multipathing only on a specific FC or SAS HBA port, see Configuring Multipathing on a Port Basis.

  1. Become an administrator.

    For more information, see Using Your Assigned Administrative Rights in Securing Users and Processes in Oracle Solaris 11.3.

  2. Enable multipathing.
    # stmsboot -e
    WARNING: stmsboot operates on each supported multipath-capable controller
             detected in a host. In your system, these controllers are
    
    /pci@400/pci@1/pci@0/pci@0/SUNW,qlc@0/fp@0,0
    /pci@400/pci@1/pci@0/pci@0/SUNW,qlc@0,1/fp@0,0
    /pci@400/pci@2/pci@0/pci@a/SUNW,emlxs@0/fp@0,0
    /pci@400/pci@2/pci@0/pci@a/SUNW,emlxs@0,1/fp@0,0
    /pci@400/pci@2/pci@0/pci@4/scsi@0/iport@40
    /pci@400/pci@2/pci@0/pci@4/scsi@0/iport@f
    /pci@400/pci@1/pci@0/pci@4/scsi@0/iport@f
    
    If you do NOT wish to operate on these controllers, please quit stmsboot
    and re-invoke with -D { fp | lsc | mpt | mpt_sas | pmcs | lmrc} to specify which controllers you wish
    to modify your multipathing configuration for.
    
    Do you wish to continue? [y/n] (default: y)

    During the reboot, the /etc/vfstab file and the dump configuration are updated to reflect the device name changes and the zpools are imported from the new device names.

  3. If necessary, configure your applications to use new device names.
