Start software update on client

The program description deals with the following:

Remarks on program function

The data for starting up software update on clients can be updated, i.e. created, changed or deleted, with this program. Data which has already been stored can be displayed.

Note:
This data only needs to be updated if the software update for clients is not done immediately after the server software is updated. As from version MICROS Retail OSCAR POS POS41 the software update of server and clients in an installation can be done at different times. It is then, for example, possible to carry out the software update during normal operation in a branch as only a few of the clients needs to be updated after the server update. The remaining clients can be updated later.

The option "Update planned" is set in program System -> Configuration -> Update Status -> Sys.unit upd.status for system units for which a special start date and time is to be defined.

Note:
As from version MICROS Retail OSCAR POS41 automatic software update will be carried out in accordance with other criteria (ASU 2). This will be done automatically and will depend on the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS version under which automatic software update was started.

The functions of this program differ in some cases and the documentation has therefore been divided up accordingly:

· As from version MICROS Retail OSCAR POS41 "Software Update 2" (ASU 2) will be used.

· "Software Update" (ASU) will be used for MICROS Retail OSCAR POS versions 40 and older.

Remarks on data fields

All options available for update of the basic data have been described below.

As with nearly all programs the following also applies here:

• The entry mask in the application program may differ for this program. Some data fields may be missing
• There may be some defaults or firmly defined selection options for some data fields. These cannot be updated in the current program.
• The entry mask contains fields where entry is optional and fields with enforced entry defined.
• If the data record is updated over several pages of entry masks, the dialog window is reached by clicking onto the appropriate button with <Mouse key 1>.
• The same procedure also applies to call-up of another update program from this program.
• In some cases, you may find so-called "Switches" which are activated or deactivated by the user with <Mouse key 1> depending on the setting. Activated switches have a dark top, deactivated switches are lighter..

Installation

Entry range permitted: numeric, 1 - 99999

Enter the no. of the installation for which the software update is to run.

If changes or deletions are necessary the data record can be called up from a number entry in the key fields. An unknown data record can be selected via the Search function.

System unit

Entry range permitted: numeric, 1 - 9999

Enter the no. of the system for which the software update is to run.

Only select systems units for which a delayed software update is planned. System units for which no special data for start time is defined will be updated immediately after successful software update of the server.

Descriptor

Entry range permitted: alphanumeric, max. 20 chars.

Enter the name of the software update.

Start date

Entry range permitted: DDMMYYYY (day, month, year)

Enter the start date for the software update of the clients of this system unit.

Start time

Entry range permitted: HHMMSS (hour, minute, seconds)

Enter the start time for the software update of the clients of this system unit.
