Because errors can occur for both guest users and logged-in shoppers, your account-based storefront should have error layouts for both types of users. The article layouts, which contain text for the pages shown after a footer link is clicked, should also be available to both guests and logged in shoppers.

Like the Home Layouts, the error and article layouts need their header widgets modified to manage content for guests and logged-in shoppers appropriately. However, these layouts can share the header widget instances you created for the Home Layouts instead of creating new instances from scratch. For more information on these shared header widgets, see Home Layout.

To create error and article layouts for guests:

  1. On the Design tab, clone the Error Layout, give it a descriptive name, enable the Make Default Layout option, and save the clone.

  2. Go to Grid View for the layout, add the Header Widget, Acct-based, Guest instance of the Header widget type to the layout and delete the original Header Widget.

  3. Repeat this process for all the article layouts.

To create error and article layouts for logged-in shoppers:

  1. On the Design tab, clone the Error Layout, give it a descriptive name, enable the ‘Display layout to account shoppers only’ option, and save the clone.

  2. Go to Grid View for the layout, add the Header Widget, Acct-based, LoggedIn instance of the Header widget type to the layout and delete the original Header Widget.

  3. Repeat this process for all the article layouts.
