Importing a Layout

Use this task to import a layout.

To import an Activity layout from the Visualizer workspace:

  1. Click More and select Import to open the Import dialog box.
  2. In the Import dialog box:
    1. Click Browse to select the layouts to import.

      You can import P6 Professional layouts in .PLF format or P6 Visualizer layouts in .VLF format. You can select multiple files by using Ctrl+Click and Shift+Click.

    2. Select Open to display layouts in the Layout list. Selected layouts are displayed in the Layout list.
    3. To remove a layout from the Layout list, select the layout and click Delete.
    4. Click Next to continue to Step 2: Configure Layouts.
    5. In the Available to list select Global if you want the layout to be available to all users, User if you want the layout to be available to the current user or Project if you wat the layout to be available only with a certain project.
    6. In the Project list, select to the project to which you want to apply the layout. This list is only enabled if Project is selected from the Available to list. The projects listed in the Project list are the same project list that appears in the Manage Layouts dialog box.
    7. Click Back to return to Step 1: Select Layouts to Import if you want to select a new or additional layouts.
  3. Click Import to close the Import dialog box and to import the layouts.
  4. After import is complete, you can open the imported layout or use it to create new layouts.

    Notes:

    • Only Activity view layouts can be imported from P6 Professional. All layouts are imported as Gantt Chart layouts.
    • You must have the Add/Edit/Delete Global Visualizer Layouts privilege to choose the Global option.
    • You must have the Add/Edit/Delete Project Visualizer Layouts privilege to choose the Project option.
    • Values for activity codes, project codes, and notebook topics that are specific to the export database might have different values if the layout is imported to a different database.
    • Layout names must be unique. If you import a layout with the same name as an existing layout, P6 Visualizer adds "-1" to the end of the layout name when it is imported.
