Map Layer Properties

You can customize the appearance and behavior of map layers using the properties available in the Layers tab of the Properties pane.

The properties available depend on the layer type and the data used in the layer.

Property Description
Name

Specifies the name of the layer.

Options
  • Auto: Generates a name based on the columns used in the layer.
  • Custom: Lets you specify your own layer name.
Map Layer

Specifies the map layer used to match and display location-based data for the layer. The available options depend on the map layers configured in your environment.

Layer Type

Specifies how the layer is displayed on the map. The available layer types depend on the data used in the layer. See About Data Layer Types for Maps.

Radius

For heatmap layers, shows the extent of influence of a measure around a point value on a map. See About Using Heatmap Layers on Maps.

Color

Specifies the color of the polygons or other shapes on the map. Availability depends on the layer type.

Intensity

For heatmap layers, specifies the visual impact of each point. See About Using Heatmap Layers on Maps.

Transparency

Specifies the transparency of the layer. Increase transparency to make underlying map details or overlapping layers easier to see.

Outline

Specifies whether outlines display for points or shapes in the layer.

Size

Specifies the size of points, lines, or other supported layer objects in relation to the map. Availability depends on the layer type.

Tooltip

Specifies the data that displays in the tooltip when hovering over the layer on the map. See About the Tooltip Property for Visualization Data Points.

Show Layer

Displays or hides the layer on the map visualization.

Show Legend Title

Displays or hides the legend title for the layer.

Data Labels Position

Specifies whether data labels display and where they appear in relation to map objects. Availability depends on the layer type.

Directional Arrows

For the Dynamic Line layer type, adds directional arrows to the lines. See Configure the Properties for Dynamic Lines on a Map.

Zoom Level

Specifies the zoom level at which the layer displays. See Control When Map Layers Display at Different Zoom Levels.

Auto Zoom

Automatically adjusts the map view to focus on the extent of the layer when the visualization is rendered.

Enable Selection

Lets consumers select data in the layer using the Rectangle, Radial, or Polygon selection toggles, or using left or right mouse click. See Select Points or Areas on a Map.
