E-Document Certification in Brazil

In Brazil, you must generate an electronic invoice for every sale of goods or services. You may also need to generate e-documents for accounting and bookkeeping reports, certain tax collection forms, and other transactions involving goods, services, or expenses.

You must submit your e-documents to the appropriate tax authorities, such as the Receita Federal, state Secretarias da Fazenda (SEFAZ), and city governments. These authorities certify your e-documents by verifying authenticity and compliance with format, content, and fiscal requirements.

After certification, you can:

  • Share e-documents with vendors, customers, or tax agencies.

  • Use e-documents for bookkeeping and accounting.

  • Store e-documents to meet legal retention requirements. Retention periods vary by type of e-document.

Brazil Certification Tax Authorities works with the LATAM E-Document Certification SuiteApp to support e-document certification for companies doing business in Brazil. For more information, see LATAM E-Document Certification.
