Configuring FSM Maps, Geo-location and Tracking

These Field Service Management (FSM) settings control automatic coordinate sourcing from addresses, location updates in FSM Mobile, and the distance used for on-site comparisons.

This topic includes the following sections:

Settings and Defaults

Device location updates require browser location access. Employee data must be available in FSM Mobile for employee-coordinate updates, save attempts, and task timestamp checks.

The table shows the standard defaults. Your account's custom configuration can override these defaults.

Setting

Root Object and Property

Default

Purpose

Automatic address-based coordinate sourcing

geo → geocodeaddress

true (Boolean)

Enables automatic coordinate sourcing from record addresses. Set to false to turn off automatic coordinate sourcing.

FSM Mobile save threshold for employee coordinates

"routes/mobile" → geotracking

60000 milliseconds (60 seconds)

Minimum interval between attempts to save employee coordinates after device location updates.

FSM Mobile on-site distance

"routes/mobile" → onsite

0.5 km (500 meters)

Distance used for FSM Mobile arrival and departure capture. A received position is on site when its distance from the task is less than this value. Use a positive distance.

Schedule Board distance comparison

"routes/scheduler" → onsite

0.5 km (500 meters)

Resource-to-event distance comparison on the Schedule Board. This setting is independent of the FSM Mobile on-site distance.

A positive geotracking value starts location watching. Setting the value to 0 stops location watching, coordinate updates, and the arrival and departure capture that depends on location watching.

geotracking controls the threshold between save attempts, rather than the device's location sampling interval. It does not guarantee a successful NetSuite update at that frequency.

Standard default JSON for these properties:

            {
  "geo": {
    "geocodeaddress": true
  },
  "routes/mobile": {
    "geotracking": 60000,
    "onsite": 0.5
  },
  "routes/scheduler": {
    "onsite": 0.5
  }
}

Viewing and Changing the Settings

The Editor contains the account's custom configuration. When available, Preview shows the merged configuration, including unsaved changes in the Editor. For more information, see Using Configuration Preview.

  1. Go to Field Service > Administration > Configuration.

  2. Before editing, follow Updating and Validating FSM Configuration to prepare an inactive copy of the current configuration.

  3. In the Editor, add or update the property inside the root object shown in the table.

    For example, merge this fragment into the existing custom configuration. It sets the FSM Mobile save threshold to 2 minutes and the on-site distance to 250 meters.

                    {
      "routes/mobile": {
        "geotracking": 120000,
        "onsite": 0.25
      }
    }

    The Schedule Board distance remains unchanged.

  4. After validating, saving, and activating the revised configuration, reload FSM Mobile.

For map behavior and tracking limits, see FSM Maps, Geo-location and Tracking. For other Board settings, see FSM Schedule Board Configuration.
