Working with Assemblies on Item Creation Records

Note:

Install the NetSuite CPQ Manufacturing SuiteApp to create assembly items automatically.

With NetSuite CPQ Configurator, you can automatically create assembly items required by the configuration based on information included in item creation records. To work with assemblies on item creation records, start by following the steps mentioned in the help topic Working with Item Creation Records.

When working with assemblies on item creation records, you can add components to the assembly that NetSuite CPQ Configurator will create when users submit the configuration. For more information, see Adding Components to Items.

If the Advanced Bill of Materials feature is enabled in your account, you can create assemblies with an advanced BOM by selecting assembly as item type. If this feature is not enabled, the item type available is assembly/bill of materials, and you cannot create assemblies with an advanced BOM. For more information, see Enabling Advanced BOM.

When working with assemblies with advanced BOM on item creation records, you can set field values for the bill of materials and the revision records associated with the assembly.

To set values for the bill of materials and the revision:

  1. On the Item Creation subtab, click Edit next to the item creation record you want to modify.

  2. Check the Bill of Materials box.

  3. On the BOM subtab, fill in the fields related to the bill of materials and the revision, such as name, memo, and subsidiary, as you would do in the related records. For more information, see Creating a New BOM Record and Creating BOM Revisions.

  4. The Restrict to current assembly box is checked by default to make available the bill of materials only for the current assembly.

When this option is enabled, only the current assembly is selected in the corresponding Restrict to Assemblies field of the BOM record.

To make the BOM available to all assemblies:

    • Clear the Restrict to current assembly box.

    • Check the Available to all assemblies box.

  5. Click Save.

You can also set field values for the manufacturing routing that groups all the routing steps needed to build your assembly.

To be included in a manufacturing routing, a routing step must be assigned to a material that appears under the Components subtab of the item creation record. You can assign a routing step to a material through the Routing field on the material record. For more information, see Defining Routing Steps to Build the Configurable Item.

To set values in the manufacturing routing:

  1. On the Item Creation subtab, click Edit next to the item creation record you want to modify.

  2. Check the Routing box.

  3. On the Routing subtab, fill in the fields related to the manufacturing routing, such as name, memo, and location, as you would do on the related record. For more information, see Creating a Manufacturing Routing.

  4. Click Save.
