Damage Claim: Identification

This page is accessed via Financials > Damage Claim.

The Claim Manager records information for Oracle Transportation Management or non-Oracle Transportation Management damaged shipments, notifies parties of their involvement with a claim, and tracks status changes that occur throughout the claim process.

A claim tracks the life cycle from inception through to closure of an identified freight damage claim. A claim consists of any freight damage that occurs to a shipment prior to taking ownership/responsibility of the shipment.

Users can be granted various roles and access levels depending on what functionality they need from the claim manager. User Roles access privileges should be assigned or restricted based on viewing, creating and editing a claim.

Oracle Transportation Management Claims are not dependent on pre-existing Oracle Transportation Management orders or shipments. Oracle Transportation Management can create a claim about a non-related Oracle Transportation Management order as well as pull data from existing Oracle Transportation Management shipments and orders.

Adding a Claim

  1. Enter the Claim ID to uniquely identify a claim. If a claim ID is not assigned manually, Oracle Transportation Management creates one.
  2. The Domain Name is where you store the claim when you first create the claim. The domain name list only shows domains that you have access rights.
  3. Click Status to review the current claim status, if in Edit mode.
  4. Use the Damage Information section to describe the damage. This is a good place for eyewitness accounts and detailed descriptions of what took place.
  5. Enter the Report Date for when the damage was first reported.
  6. The Incident Date indicates when the damage actually occurred.
  7. Enter the Notification Point, Cause of Damage, and the Nature of Damage for the claim.
  8. Damage Value is the total loss amount of the damaged goods. Oracle Transportation Management can derive a damage value or you can enter a fixed value. If derived, Oracle Transportation Management sums all DAMAGE cost types of the claim. Set the claim's DAMAGE cost on the individual Line item and or on the Claim's general cost sections. Mark the Damage Value Fixed check box to prevent any changes to the damage value. An example of a damaged value would be if you had 10 shirts that were valued at 100 dollars and 3 shirts were damaged. The Damaged Value of the three shirts would be 30 dollars.

Note: Generally, you would only create a DAMAGE cost for the line item portion of a claim.

  9. Optionally, select the Self- Reconciling check box to indicate the claim does not need manual intervention in order for it to become resolved.
  10. The Size of Loss shows the total loss of the claim in its entirety. Oracle Transportation Management can calculate the size of loss or a fixed value can be entered. If calculated, the size of loss amount is derived from the summed individual Item Costs and the Claim's General Costs. Select the Size of Loss Fixed check box to prevent any changes to the size of loss value.
  11. If the order is an Oracle Transportation Management generated shipment, attach a Shipment ID to the claim. All order lines on the shipment entered are available to make a claim against.
  12. Enter a Notification Date when notified of the damage. Enter a contact as either the Notifying Party or as the Responsible/Liable Party.
