Servicing the DIMMs

This section describes how to service memory modules (DIMMs). DIMMs are replaceable components that require you to power off the server for service. For more information about replaceable components, see Illustrated Parts Breakdown and Replaceable Components.

The Oracle Exadata Storage Server X8-2 EF and HC support a fixed base configuration of twelve 16 GB quad-rank (LR) DDR4 DIMMs, or a configuration that supports six 128 GB Data Center Persistent Memory Module (DCPMM) DIMMs per processor for a maximum of 12 DCPMM DIMMs alongside the 16 GB DDR4 DIMMs in the same memory channel. The Oracle Exadata Storage Server X8-2 XT supports a fixed base configuration of six 16 GB quad-rank DDR4 DIMMs. For more information, see DIMM Population Rules.

Caution

Caution  -  These procedures require that you handle components that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. This sensitivity can cause the components to fail. To avoid damage, ensure that you follow antistatic practices as described in Take Antistatic Measures.

Caution

Caution  -  Ensure that all power is removed from the server before removing or installing DIMMs, or damage to the DIMMs might occur. You must disconnect all power cables from the system before performing these procedures.

The following topics and procedures provide information to assist you when replacing a DIMM or upgrading DIMMs:
