The kernel might crash in an 8-socket system with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (SLES11) and a Sun Dual 10GbE I2 SFP+ PCIe 2.0. PCIe ExpressModule.
Workaround 1
Add the following entry to the /etc/modprobes.conf file:
options ixgbe InterruptType=1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1
It might be necessary to temporarily remove the Sun Dual 10GbE I2 SFP+ PCIe 2.0. PCIe ExpressModule to prevent the kernel from crashing long enough for you to modify this file.
Workaround 2
Install drivers from Novell.
Navigate to the following page:
http://drivers.suse.com/driver-process/staging/pub/update/intel/sle11/common/x86_64/
Download and install the following drivers:
intel-ixgbe-2.0.75.7-1.x86_64.rpm intel-ixgbe-kmp-default-2.0.75.7_2.6.27.19_5-1.x86_64.rpm intel-ixgbe-kmp-xen-2.0.75.7_2.6.27.19_5-1.x86_64.rpm
