Preface

The Sun Java™ Enterprise System Installation Guide for Microsoft Windows contains the information you need to install the Sun Java™ Enterprise System (Java ES) software in a Windows operating system.

This preface contains the following sections:


Who Should Use This Book

This guide is intended for any evaluator, system administrator, or software technician who wants to install the Sun Java Enterprise System software.

This guide assumes you are familiar with the following:


How This Book Is Organized

This guide includes the following chapters:

Chapter 1, "Installation Planning Overview," describes the installation planning tasks for Windows installation. It also provides the installable components of this release.

Chapter 2, "Developing Your Installation Sequence," describes the key installation issues, component interdependencies, and configuration options available.

Chapter 3, "Installation Process and Prerequisites," describes the delivery modes of the Windows JES software, its installation and uninstallation process. This chapter also discusses the installation prerequisites such as component interdependencies.

Chapter 4, "Installation Scenarios," explains the various installation examples.

Chapter 5, "Installing Sun Java Enterprise System Using the Installation Wizard," describes the installation process using the Windows installation wizard.

Chapter 6, "Gathering Configuration Information for Configure Later Option," describes configuration information for various components.

Chapter 7, "Post-installation Configuration for Configure Later Option," describes how to configure some components by running the batch files after installing with the configure later option.

Chapter 8, "Installing the Software in Silent Mode," describes how to create response files so that multiple installations can be done in the background without constant monitoring of the setup.

Chapter 9, "Starting and Stopping Components," describes how to run the application components after they are installed and configured. It also describes how to stop these components.

Chapter 10, "Uninstalling the Software," describes how to uninstall the software.

Chapter 11, "Troubleshooting," discusses the most common problems encountered and how to resolve them.

Glossary, refers to the Sun glossary web page. This includes words and phrases, and their definitions.

Index, provides support for text search on a topic one has come across.
