By default, Search indexes are stored in the GZIP compression format. This compression allows you to retain more historical indexes, and provides for faster deployment of large indexes over the network. However, if your index is very small or is deployed locally, you may achieve faster performance without the compression.
To turn off compression, set CompressDeployShare=0 in the AEConfig.xml file located in <ATG9dir>/Search9.3/SearchEngine/platform/bin.
After making any compression changes, you must do a full index of your content.
