About Controls and Exceptions

Control Points are reports that track information on activity performed by a store, cashier, etc., based on a defined threshold. An example of this would be a cashier who repeatedly exceeds the threshold amount for line discounts.

When you create a Control Point report, you must include a pre-defined Control Target, such as cashier, store, or item, and a Control Threshold consisting of a single metric with an applied condition. You can also set up an alert condition on control points based upon the number of repeated occurrences. When you run this report, it will create results if the values exceed the threshold value. Those results are called Exceptions, which you can review in the Exception Detail Dashboard.

When the control point is run interactively, you are presented with a series of prompts, including date selection, store hierarchy and user assignment. In the User Assignment prompt, you can designate which users will be assigned the exception results.

Note: The user role determines access to the User Assignment prompt and the ability to assign exceptions to other users or Shared Exceptions.

You can combine multiple Control Points into a Control Group.

Assigned users can access the exception results on the Exception Results page and view them in the Exception Detail Dashboard to resolve the exceptions.

You can also create Control Subscriptions to run Control Points or Control Groups on a schedule for user recipients.
