Tutorial: Send your first campaign

In this tutorial, we'll guide you through creating a campaign to send to your targeted customers using Oracle Responsys Express.

Before you begin

Important: Before creating a campaign and associated assets in your environment, we recommend you check with your administrator for guidance. Working with a live environment is not recommended without taking precautions.

Verify that your administrator has completed the steps to get your organization set up for Responsys Express.

Step 1: Create your segment

A segment is a group of customers that you want to send a marketing message. Segments are generated based on profile attributes of your contacts, such as city or state.

To create a segment:

  1. Explore your data and decide the conditions you want to use for your segment.

    Before you create the segment, it's helpful to take a look at the data your administrator has configured and imported into Responsys Express. For example, if you are planning a sale at a store in a particular city, search your data to make sure there are customers in your contacts list who live in that city.

  2. Create your segment.

Step 2: Create a message

A message is the email content that you want to send to your segment.

To create a message:

  1. Create a new message and add content to it.

  2. Upload assets to Responsys Express and add assets to your message.

  3. Optionally, personalize your message.

  4. Test your message by previewing your message and sending a proof.

Step 4: Create and publish a campaign

A campaign is an automated dialog that describes a communication flow with a contact. It uses a specific set of assets to communicate a go-to-market message.

For your first campaign, we recommend the simplest flow: bring in a segment of your contacts and send them an email message.

To create and publish a campaign:

  1. Create a campaign and add a segment stage and an email stage.

  2. Add your segment to the segment stage.

  3. Add your message to the email message stage.

  4. Add notification details, validate, and publish the campaign.

Step 5: Analyze the campaign performance

You can view Insights to see various charts and graphs that show how your campaign and message performed.
