Landing Pages

Landing pages are custom pages with unique URLs. You create a landing page when you must add content that is not specific to an existing page, such as the Home page or Item Detail page.

Typical landing pages might include:

Creating a Landing Page

When you create a landing page, you specify the properties for that page using the Landing Page Settings found on the side panel.

To create a landing page:

  1. Log in to Site Management Tools. For details, see Log In.

  2. Click Overview Mode on the Site Management toolbar.

  3. Click the Pages tab.

  4. Click New Page.

  5. Select the General tab.

  6. Using the table below for reference, fill out the fields.

    General Tab

    Field

    Description

    Visibility

Select Always Visible to make the landing page always visible or select Visible on Specific Dates to choose specific dates on which to have the landing page visible. Leave the end date blank to make the landing page visible indefinitely.

    Note:

With SMT v3, landing pages follow the same Publish workflow as content, meaning you can choose a specific date and time for the landing page to become visible, or choose to make it always visible. Landing pages and the content displayed on them are independent of one another. Whether the content is expired, or the landing page is expired, no content displays.

    Tip:

When a landing page expires and you want to make the page immediately visible change the End Date & Time to a future date. If you want to use an expired landing page again and do not want the page available immediately, change the Start Date & Time and the End Date & Time.

For more information, see Visibility Dates.

    Name

Enter a name for the landing page. This name is used as an internal identifier for the page and is not displayed anywhere on the website.

    Heading

By default, this is set to the value entered in the Name field. The heading is displayed on the landing page only if the template supports it. If required, you can change the heading.

    Path

This determines how a visitor accesses the page. This field is case sensitive and by default is set to the value entered in the Name field. Any spaces are replaced with hyphens. For example, if you create a Contact Us page, and you set the path of the page to contact-us, then the page can be accessed at the following URL: http://yoursite.com/contact-us.

You can provide links to the page throughout your site and include it in a site map so that search engines can easily find it.

    Tags

Add additional information to help identify the page when using the sort and filter tools. For details, see Content Tags and Filter Tools.

  7. Select the Metadata tab.

  8. Using the table below for reference, fill out the fields.

    Field

    Description

    Title

Enter the text to populate the HTML title element. Providing a descriptive title that includes the target keywords and accurately describes the page can improve the page's ranking on search result pages. Additionally, search engines often display this title on search result pages and link it to the page. Follow SEO best practices when creating page titles. For details, see SEO and Page Titles.

    Meta Description

Enter the text to populate the HTML meta description element. The description entered here is an important SEO tool and is often displayed on search result pages as a description of the page. Setting a meaningful and accurate description that contains the target keywords can improve the ranking in search result pages. Use SEO best practices when writing descriptions. For details, see SEO and Meta Descriptions.

    Meta Keywords

Enter the text to populate the HTML meta keywords element for the page. It is important to follow SEO best practices when defining meta keywords. Using them incorrectly can have an impact on the page’s ranking on search result pages.

  9. Select the Layout tab.

  10. Choose the page layout that you want to apply. For details, see SMT Page Layout Selector.

  11. Select the Advanced tab.

  12. If you have additional metadata to add to the <head> section of the page, enter the HTML code in the Add to <head> field.

  13. Click Save.

  14. Publish the changes. For details, see Review and Publish Your Site.
