Workflow and Notifications

We use the term "notification" to reference the electronic transactions that you exchange with third parties when:

  • They need information about a customer
  • They need to change something about a customer

For example, an energy service provider sends a notification to a distribution company when a customer chooses them as their energy provider. When a notification is received by the distribution company, the system responds by creating a workflow process. The workflow process contains workflow events. These events perform the processing necessary to execute the notification.

In addition to processing incoming notifications, workflow processes can be used to automate many different types of multi-event processes. For example, you can use workflow processing to manage the events associated with the inspection of a new premise.

This section describes how to manage your workflow and notification processing.

Note:

In the section, Defining Workflow and Notification Options, we describe how to set up the control tables that automate most of your notification and workflow processing. If you set these tables up properly, little or no operator intervention should be necessary. You should only have to access the workflow and notification pages when you need to override the standard procedures embodied in your workflow processes.
