To use the Quick Dashboard Editor, you should understand the following parts of its interface:
Visualization area: The data that has been added to the Visual Insight quick dashboard, including interactive visualizations and text fields, is displayed in the center of the interface.
Dataset Objects panel: This panel is located on the left side of the interface, and displays a list of the report objects in the quick dashboard's dataset. You can drag and drop report objects from the Dataset Objects panel to add them to a visualization, allow users to filter based on an attribute or metric, and so on. For example, you can:
Note: If the Dataset Object panel is not displayed in the Quick Dashboard Editor, you can show it by clicking the Show Dataset Objects icon in the toolbar.
Add or remove datasets from the quick dashboard. For steps, see Adding and removing datasets from a quick dashboard.
Specify which report objects to display in the Dataset Objects panel. The Dataset Objects panel displays the report objects from one dataset at a time. If your quick dashboard contains multiple datasets, you can select a dataset from the drop-down list in the Dataset Objects panel to specify which dataset to display in the panel.
Drag and drop report objects to the Drop Zones panel to add them to a visualization, or click and drag a report object on top of a report object already on the Drop Zones panel to replace it.
Drag and drop report objects to the Filters panel to add filters to the quick dashboard.
Create derived metrics for use in the quick dashboard. For steps, see Adding derived metrics to a quick dashboard.
Drop Zones panel: You can drag and drop report objects in the Drop Zones panel to add them to the visualization currently selected in the quick dashboard. For steps to create and display data in visualizations, see About visualizations. You can access the Drop Zones panel by clicking the Edit Visualization icon in the toolbar. Hover the cursor over the name of the panel, click the arrow icon in the top right, and clear the Show Properties option. You can:
Note: The name of the Drop Zones panel may vary depending on the type of visualization you are modifying. For example, the Drop Zones panel appears as the Grid panel when modifying a Grid visualization, and appears as the Network panel when modifying a Network visualization.
Quickly replace report objects in the Drop Zones panel with another report object, or a derived metric based on the report object. In the Drop Zones panel, click the name of the report object you want to replace, then select the report object you want to replace it with or define your new derived metric. For steps to define a derived metric, see Adding derived metrics to a quick dashboard.
Drag and drop report objects to the Dataset Objects panel to remove them from a visualization.
Create derived metrics for use in the quick dashboard. For steps, see Adding derived metrics to a quick dashboard.
Allow a user to select elements in one visualization to filter the data displayed in another visualization. For steps, see Allowing visualizations to filter other visualizations.
Properties panel: You can select options in the Properties panel to specify the type of graph elements to display in a Graph Matrix visualization, banding options for a Grid visualization, whether to allow users to delete rectangles in a Heat Map visualization, and so on. For steps, see Formatting visualizations. You can access the Properties panel by clicking the Edit Visualization icon in the toolbar. Hover the cursor over the name of the panel, click the arrow icon in the top right, and select the Show Properties option.
Filters panel: This panel is located on the left of the interface by default. You can allow users to filter the data displayed in the quick dashboard by selecting options from filters in the Filters panel. For steps, see Adding filters to the Filters panel. You can access the Filters panel by clicking the Filters icon in the toolbar.
Page-by area: You can add an attribute in the Page-by area to allow users to group and organize the data in a quick dashboard based on a selected attribute element. For steps, see Grouping data in a quick dashboard. You can access the Page-by area by clicking the Show Page-by icon in the toolbar.
