Migrating from Google Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4 with GTM

Note:

For information about migrating from Google Universal Analytics (GUA) to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) without Google Tag Manager (GTM), see Migrating from Google Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4.

Google will end data collection for the GUA service on July 1, 2023. You will no longer be able to use GUA to analyze new data, such as new visitor data to your NetSuite Commerce web store. Migrate to GA4 to continue using Google’s analytics services to collect new data on your Commerce website.

Note:

You will still be able to analyze existing data you gathered through GUA for an additional six months from July 1, 2023.

To migrate from GUA to GA4 (SuiteCommerce, SuiteCommerce My Account, SuiteCommerce Advanced 2018.2 and later):

  1. Log in to your Google Analytics account and set up GA4. See Migrating from GUA to GA4 in Your Google Analytics Account.

  2. Ensure you have installed the bundle for the latest SuiteCommerce GTM Editor extension. See Commerce Extensions for the latest bundle ID and Installing Theme and Extension SuiteApps for information about installing Commerce Extension SuiteApps.

  3. Implement GA4 using GTM by adding the GA4 service to the GTM Editor. See Modify Google Tag Manager Services for information about implementing GA4 using GTM and the SuiteCommerce Google Tag Manager Editor extension.

    Note:

For implementations of SuiteCommerce Advanced (SCA) 2018.2 – 2022.2 using Google Analytics 4 with the Google Tag Manager Commerce Extension, review the data-layer structure of SCA version 2023.1 or later and compare it with your current version. With the release of SCA 2023.1, modifications were made in the data-layer code to comply with Google and correctly track information with Google Analytics events. For information about the suggested data-layer structure you should use, see Google Tag Manager Events Not Displaying in Data Layer Upon Checkout.

To migrate from GUA to GA4 (SuiteCommerce Advanced Mont Blanc, Vinson, Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, and Aconcagua):

  1. Log in to your Google Analytics account and set up GA4. See Migrating from GUA to GA4 in Your Google Analytics Account.

  2. Confirm you have correctly configured GTM for your SCA implementation. See Set Up Google Tag Manager (SuiteCommerce Advanced Aconcagua and Earlier) for information about implementing GA4 using GTM and the SuiteCommerce Google Tag Manager container generator.

To migrate from GUA to GA4 (SuiteCommerce Advanced Denali, ShopFlow, and Site Builder):

  1. Log in to your Google Analytics account and set up GA4. See Migrating from GUA to GA4 in Your Google Analytics Account.

  2. GTM is not available for sites built on SCA Denali and earlier, ShopFlow, or Site Builder. To implement GA4 on these sites, your development team will need to customize your site’s code.

For SCA Denali and earlier, your development team can add Google Analytics events in your data layer. See Enable Google Analytics 4 (Denali – Mont Blanc).

See Google Analytics with ShopFlow and Site Builder for information about implementing Google Analytics on a Site Builder website.
