Deleted assets are handled differently depending on whether the asset has been deployed.

When you create an asset and then delete it in the same project, the asset is removed immediately from ATG Merchandising and the underlying database.

To delete a deployed asset, you must first add it to a project and then delete it. The asset is not deleted until you check in the project. When you delete a deployed asset in your project, it appears on the Project tab with a red strikethrough, but no longer appears in other views because it has been removed. To restore the deleted asset, locate the asset on the Project tab and remove it from the project (see Reverting Changes to Assets).

When you check in a project that includes deleted assets, you remove the asset from ATG Merchandising and the deployment target database, but previous versions of the asset exist in the Content Administration database and are visible in the ATG Business Control Center. When you delete a parent asset such as a category, the rules that govern how the asset’s children are handled depends on the type of asset. See the following sections:
