If your environment is set up to use Oracle Commerce MDEX Engine search application, your search environment will show different information. To verify if your environment uses the MDEX Engine, contact your system administrator.

When you select the Products button in the global navigation area, select the Product Catalog link. The Search Product Catalog screen is displayed. This page allows you to enter search criteria, browse through the product catalog, or select facets that have been defined within the catalog. When you use the MDEX Engine-based catalog search, your searches will be the same as the customer’s, meaning that you will see the exact information that the customer sees.

By default, the current site is selected in the Selections area. You can use the drop down menu to select all sites, or the current site, based upon the customer’s requirements. Selecting All Sites will allow you to search any catalog that is associated with the sites listed, either the default catalog for the site, or the current catalog that you select.

Entering Search Criteria

You can enter search criteria, such as “women”, or “blue” or other keywords to assist in the search. If your system has been configured to use auto-suggestions, when you enter a defined number of characters, suggestions will be provided that you can select for quick access:

Using the Browse Menu

You can also search for catalog items using the Browse menu by clicking on the browse arrow. This will display a list of all of the categories that have been defined for the catalog. Select the category and the results will display in the results screen.

Selecting Items By Facets

The Product Catalog page also displays the facets or dimensions that have been defined for the catalog. These are listed on the left of the screen, and provide a number of each item that will be displayed. Dimensions may have been configured to display things like “Brand”, “Size”, or “Color.” You can click on the dimension to see the catalog items within it.

Should there be a large number of dimensions, you may see a more or fewer link that, when selected, will expand or collapse the list.

Tracking Your Search

You can follow your search by using the Selections screen. This screen will track the search selections you make, creating “breadcrumbs” for you to follow back. You can clear individual selection criteria by clicking its associated X, or you can clear all of the selections by clicking the Clear All link.
