In addition to site-specific rules, targeters and content groups can include As Seen On filters, which make it possible to show on one site content that is associated with other sites. For example, when customers browse products on site A, a targeter might display a set of related products from site B.
Each rule for a content group or targeter, including the default rule, can include an As Seen On filter. If you do not specify an As Seen On filter, the default behavior is to search only the current site.
When you fill out the General tab for a new content group or targeter, you must select a Content Source that is a multisite repository item with site membership, and a Content Type that has site membership. By default, the selections that qualify are:
Content Source: ProductCatalog
Content Type: Category, Product, or SKU
For more information about site membership, see Site-Specific Repository Data (Site Membership) in the Multisite Administration Guide.
To use the As Seen On site filter:
Click the As Seen on button at the right of the rule header.
The beginning of the new filter appears in the Rules panel.
Specify the sites you want to which you want to limit queries. To do so, click the default choice, Current Site. The following options appear:
Select Current Site to specify the site the visitor is currently on.
Select Any Site to specify all registered sites in your environment.
Select These Site(s) to choose specific sites. Click the new box that opens to see a list of sites. Check the checkbox next to one or more choices and click OK.
Note: All registered sites are listed, including disabled sites.
Select Sites Sharing Shareable to select a shareable, such as the Shopping Cart, Login Status, or a Gift List, with either the current site or a specified site. Click the arrow between Sites Sharing Shareable and With Current Site to see the shareable selections. To make a selection, highlight your choice.
Click With Current Site to see the alternate choice: With Site.
If you select With Site, another box appears. Click the arrow in the (choose a site) box to see a list of sites. Select your choice by highlighting it.
Note: All registered sites are listed, including disabled sites.
Finish the rest of the rule configuration. See Defining User Segment Rules, Defining Content Group Rules, and Defining Targeter Rules for more information.
Click Create.
When a targeter references one or more content groups and the rules for both items use site filters, the As Seen On site filters must not explicitly conflict. Avoid a configuration such as the one in the following table:
Content group configuration | Targeter configuration |
---|---|
Override rule to execute on Site D: As Seen On Site C CONFLICT | Override rule to execute on Site D: As Seen On Sites A and B |
