Profile Text

The following program description deals with:

Remarks on the Program Function

By use of this program you can update the data for a profile, i.e. insert new records, edit and delete the existing ones. You can also display the data on the screen for enquiry only.

Profile for POS type and operator

MICROS Retail OSCAR POS enables you to link individual profiles for both the POS terminals and operators in the system, i.e. activities at the terminal and access rights to update programs are regulated in the profiles.

Profile adapted Help system

In addition to the setting up a terminal or operator profile the help system can also be adapted as per the respective profile with buttons "Preview", "Create help", "Clear help" und "Create compressed help", i.e. help texts for blocked application programs or deleted fields and the relevant hyperlinks are cleared from the help system.

Click on the graphic for further information on "Adjustment of help system".

  1. Terminal profile
After configuring the Terminal type to be linked to the individual POS terminals, the user can then describe a profile for the programmed terminals. This profile defines the access the functions, and regulates which lock position requires which passwords to call up a function.
  2. Operator profile
Profiles can also be configured for operators to control access to certain Terminal functions.
These are on the one hand the
Group profile for access rights to program groups and
on the other hand for the
Application profile for access rights to individual programs.
As with terminal profiles the user defines the access to update programs and program groups (articles, stock, supplier customer, etc.) by, for example, prohibiting adding, changing and/or deleting data.

Note:

Procedure:

A profile is linked by calling up the program Terminal -> Terminal type or Operator –>Add.texts and then activating the Profile no. button. The window Profile text is opened and the framework for a profile is defined here (profile no., profile name).
Second step:

The overview graphic Profile Organization shows the different dependencies and possibilities relating to profiles and access restrictions.

Remarks on the Input Fields

This paragraph will provide a short overview over the options available for updating these Basic Data.

Just like in almost any other program:

Profile no.

Permitted input range: numeric, 0 - 999

To add a new record, enter an unused number in the Key Fields.

For changes or deletions, the records can be retrieved by entering the numbers in the key fields. If you do not know the numbers, you can also select the data record via the Search Function.

Descriptor

Permitted input range: alphanumeric, max. 20 characters

When inserting a new record, enter into this field the name for the profile number. The description is arbitrary.

When changing or deleting a record, the name will be displayed automatically when the record is retrieved.

Disable preset fields

Button activated: All default fields are not shown in the screen mask.
Button deactivated: All default fields are shown in the screen mask but cannot be changed by the operator.

Note:
Default fields cannot normally be changed by the operator. They are only shown in the mask for information.

If default data has been entered for an operator (e.g. default Company, Branch, Branch group, Profit center or Price list) parametering is possible to define whether these fields are shown in the screen masks or not.

Click on the graphic for further help with Default of user data.

Use alternate frame

Button activated: Instead of the standard entry mask an alternative screen mask will be activated per operator for some programs.
Button deactivated:  No alternative standard entry masks are used for operator in programs Item, Operator and Promotions.

The number of possible entry fields and options is reduced in the alternative screen masks, i.e. only those entry fields necessary to program a new data record are shown.

Note:
This function assumes that a default for the company has been set for this operator in program Operator -> Default data, field "Default company".

At present there are alternative screen masks for the following programs.

Deactivate Appl.profile add.

Button activated: The data in program Profile text -> Application profile -> Appl.profile add.data is not analysed.
