A Search project collects the content that you want to index, settings that control how that content is indexed, and what resources are used to create the index and answer end-user queries. The index is your searchable content. Each index is composed of one or more content sets. A Search project should represent a body of content that you want to deploy as one entity. Each Search project automatically has one content set when created, as well as a default environment for creating and deploying indexes.

Note: Index size does not bear any direct relationship to the size of the raw information being indexed—dictionaries, topics, and other customizations all add to the size of the index, as can the nature of the content itself. For example, content consisting mostly of pictures with some metadata might form a very small index relative to the raw content size, while a product catalog with many small, unique pieces of information might be relatively large.
