To estimate the size of your index before building it:
On the Projects tab, go to Projects > Your Project.
Click Build Index.
In the Build Index dialog, the Indexing Plan Estimation option is checked by default.
Leave it checked, and click OK. The window changes to the Status Monitor tab to show the progress of the estimation task.
Note: You may need to wait a moment for the page to refresh before seeing estimation begin.
When estimation is complete, review the data to ensure that you have sufficient resources to index and deploy the content. The estimation results include:
Estimated size of the index in MB
Approximation of how long it will take to build the index
A partitioning plan. A physical partition represents the amount of content that can be served by one search engine, approximately 1.5 GB. You may want to split your content into more than the minimum number of partitions if the estimation is close to the limit.
The deployment plan displays the search engines available for these partitions. See the ATG Search Installation and Configuration Guide for information about adding search engines.
You may also want to review any errors that occurred during index estimation.
To continue and create the index, click Continue Indexing. To cancel the build, click Cancel Indexing, then OK to confirm.
Note: Depending on your content, estimation can take a significant length of time.
