CPU power-state cannot be capped on host reboots if hard cap is enabled

Bug ID 15634048

The CPU power-state is not capped after a host reboot even if hard cap is enabled. This is because Oracle ILOM Power Management limits might not be honored upon boot in Oracle Linux 5.5 or in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.5.

Affected hardware and software:

  • Sun Fire X4170 M2 Server

  • Sun Fire X4270 M2 Server

  • Oracle Linux 5.5

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.5

  • Releases 1.0 through 1.10.1

Workaround:

Using Oracle ILOM, disable then re-enable Power Limiting using the following steps:

  1. Select the Power Management tab.

  2. Select the Limit tab.

  3. Next to the Power Limiting option, uncheck Enabled.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Next to the Power Limiting option, check Enabled.

  6. Click Save.
