Oracle ILOM SP reboot might occur due to memory limitation

Bug ID 27441441

When the Oracle Server X4170 M2 or Oracle Server X4270 M2 is running a heavy workload, the Oracle ILOM service processor (SP) might reboot due to insufficient memory.

Affected hardware and software:

  • Sun Fire X4170 M2 Server

  • Sun Fire X4270 Server

  • ILOM firmware release 3.2.11.20

  • Software Releases 1.10 and 1.10.1

Workaround:

Follow these guidelines when running Oracle ILOM 3.2.x.x, or later, firmware:

  1. When using the Oracle ILOM Snapshot utility, limit the number of open sessions. It is recommended to run only one session using either the command-line interface (CLI) or the web interface (using the Snapshot CLI is preferred). Do not run multiple tasks concurrently in different sessions.

  2. When required, open the least number of Oracle ILOM Snapshot sessions, up to a maximum of five Snapshot sessions. When running both CLI and web interface Snapshot sessions, the maximum of five sessions can include CLI sessions and one web interface session, or one session using the Oracle ILOM Remote System Console. Do not attempt to open more than one web interface or Remote Console Snapshot sessions when also using Snapshot CLI sessions.

  3. When upgrading Oracle ILOM, use this command: load –source <PKG_URL>. When issuing the command, if possible, use the the tftp, ftp, or sftp protocol rather than http or https. Do not update Oracle ILOM using the web interface to upload the package file or to provide the PKG_URL.

  4. If the Oracle ILOM update fails, Oracle ILOM will reboot into the PreBoot utility. Use these commands to recover:

Note -  Use of the PreBoot utility is for Oracle Service personnel only.
    1. Use the net config command to set the ipdiscover, managementport, and so on. Use the show command to list the configurations.

    2. Use the net dhcp command to get the IP address if ipdiscovery is set to DHCP.

    3. To flash Oracle ILOM, use this command: netflash <tftp-server-IP-address> <path-to-flash-file>
